ParticipantPassed through there a bit later, still two police cars hanging out along with a defunct police bike that was apparently having break issues. I offered to help but the cops seemed pretty intent on fixing it solo. In terms of 2012, this is the fourth accident I have witnessed there, which is exactly four too many. They need to start that trail project sooner rather than later.

No project that is upcoming is going to fix these issues. The crosswalks will still be at-grade with no signals or right-of-way assignment. These collisions will continue to happen just as they do now.

ParticipantWe can’t even get the small, easy stuff fixed along the NPS trails. Months ago at the NPS hearing on Gravelly Pt I spoke to an NPS rep about the need to fill in the long rut that extends along the southern side of the bridge near the Crystal City turnoff. I was assured that would be a quick, easy fix. It is still not fixed and has been there for years.

I’ve had some success with getting “small stuff” fixed on some trails and roads via emails and website forms. I’ve seen a few of the problems get fixed just a few weeks after I send in detailed complaints about the problem. I try to include all the relevant details and specific reasons why the conditions are a problem. But I keep out any unnecessary language or vague complaints, which I fear might turn off the person reading the email.

ParticipantI noticed they put up a guilt-o-meter on GW Parkway.
I stood there for a minute or two. This was the slowest person I saw go by. I’m sure many, many people were being safe. I just didn’t see them when I was standing there.Rock on!
Dirt.

A real guilt-o-meter for our times would list the number of people killed and injured at that intersection.

Dirt. When I went by, the fastest cars were going about 10 mph, because the Parkway was backed up all the way past the airport. I smiled at them all as I rode past.

ParticipantAnother effective use of traffic cones! We don’t think the illuminated speed sign (and the fact the trailer is in the grass) to be enough to keep it from being plowed into?

Ok, attach this to a speed camera and send out tickets!

ParticipantI think the cars were actually going backwards when I went through this morning – just looked terrible . I was up in Poolesville this weekend and they have camera activated speed traps. Put one of those bad boys out there and roll around in your Scrouge McDuck Style Pool of Revenue.

Works for me, a never ending funding strem to fix the problems!

When I was younger we treated those like the hammer-and-bell game at the carnival… how high can you hit it? Ah, youth.
