Anyone dabble in the physics of overlapping light waves of varying intensity? Is this just a perception issue?

No, but if i had to guess, I’d say it’ s a “human eye adjusting to available light” issue. Any brighter lit area will not only draw your attention, your eye will adjust to the available light (iris dilates in the dark, contracts in the light) and surrounding areas will be darker. I mean, they won’t actually be darker if you put a light-meter on them, but they will be actually-for-real darker in terms of how much light from them enters your eye.

I don’t really mind being momentarily blinded by a bright light while bike commuting, what I don’t like is being yelled at. I stopped driving and taking metro because I was getting stressed out by the time I got to work. Getting yelled at and told to F off ruins what should be a nice stress free commute.
I’ll try not to shine my light anywhere near another biker for the rest of the winter!

Is it okay as long as I’m blasting “We Own the Night” or, to be more current, something by Skrillex…?

I definitely don’t strobe on the trails, but I use them on the street (one strobe, one steady) most of the time in high traffic areas.

I’ve noted the problem of having a high powered light come from behind before (increased shadows) but never really thought it was bad enough to get angry over.

Juvenile reason to get all torqued up. I’m just sayin…
