Official registration for Freezing Saddles is now over. The registration form is still up, so that chuxtr can pick late registrants if he needs to even out teams, or have a waiting list in case people don’t show up or there are injuries. However, no one registering after now is guaranteed a place on a team.

Also, chuxtr will now be checking to make sure everyone completed all the steps they needed to. So if you missed something, now is the time to take care of it:

    1. If you were unable to authorize Freezing Saddles to read your Strava miles, then once https://freezingsaddles.org/authorize comes back up, and before January 1, you’ll need to go there so that your miles can get counted for the competition. (You don’t need to e-mail me for this one.)
    2. If you didn’t get the e-mail to confirm your e-mail address, or have thrown it out, please e-mail me at freezingsaddles@freezingsaddles.x10host.com.
    3. If you haven’t posted on this forum, you’ll need to post. If you have posted, but your post is still awaiting approval, please send a private message to Henry. And if you have now posted, but said on your registration form that you had not, please e-mail me.
    4. If you haven’t joined the Freezing Saddles Strava club, please go to https://www.strava.com/clubs/freezingsaddles2019 and join.

All of these problems can get solved if you e-mail me. As others can attest, I respond promptly. However, you will not be assigned to a team if #2 and 3 are not fixed by the time chuxtr gets around to assigning teams, which could be any time now. For problems #1 and 4, you get until January 1.

Teams will be assigned on January 10. You’ll either need to attend the first happy hour or check here on January 11 to find out what team you are on, and join that team’s Strava club. Please note that your miles starting January 1 will count toward your team’s standings, even though you won’t know what team you are on until at least January 10.

Great organization, as usual. Thanks for handling all the behind-the-scenes work so the rest of us can just have fun.

Any chance for a late registration? I tried to register on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day to no avail due to the site being down. Thanks!

The site was down, or the page to authorize Freezing Saddles to read your Strava miles was down? We had a bunch of registrations during that time, so I’m surprised that the site would be down for you.

The page to authorize Freezing Saddles to read your miles (https://freezingsaddles.org/authorize) is still down. However, you can get your Strava number for the registration form by going to Strava and clicking on your photo on the upper left. The URL will then by something like https://www.strava.com/athletes/3487165. In my example, the Strava number is 3487165. You can then authorize Freezing Saddles to read you miles once https://freezingsaddles.org/authorize comes back up.

Yes, you can still register. Late registrations are not guaranteed a place on a team. However, they are used to even out teams. For example, this year, we had 179 registrations. Assuming all of them got their act together to do the other things required, there is no way to divide 179 into a reasonable number of teams, with each team having the same number of people, so chuxtr would grab a few to produce equal numbers on each team.

We also use late registrations to make up for people who register, but then fail to show up in January.

In short, if you register now, there is an excellent chance (even though no guarantee) that you will end up on a team.

I see you registered. Don’t forget to click on the link in the e-mail asking you to confirm your e-mail address. (If you’re on Gmail, that may have gone to your “Social” or “Promotions” folder.) If that e-mail didn’t arrive, you can e-mail me at freezingsaddles@freezingsaddles.x10host.com to fix it.

I’ve just fixed the issues with the Strava Authorization feature on the Freezing Saddles web site. Everyone who had trouble doing this in the last 10 days or so should re-authorize by going to https://freezingsaddles.org/authorize now!

If you had previously authorized AND you allowed Strava to read your private activities, and it went through, you don’t need to re-authorize. If you only let it read your public activities though you will need to authorize again as Strava changed it so that we can’t tell what team you are on unless we get permission to read your full profile.
