An Epic Ride

200 Miles on a Fixie? Pfft.

Following the Tour de Fat today, acc rode almost twenty miles from Yards Park to Vienna, VA, dressed in a tutu, tights and four inch heels while riding a bike covered in rhinestones and festooned with flowers and butterflies. Through southwest Washington, over the 14th Street bridge, up the MVT, the Custis (yes, the CUSTIS!) and the W&OD. Did I mention the four inch heels? For the uninitiated, it is one thing to walk in them, but another thing to pedal a bike with them. I can walk in them fine, but when I try to pedal, my foot goes straight to the ground.

See attached photos, just after the Lynn Street Intersection of Doom and further along the trail in Dunn Loring. I kept the Strava data.

Wow, the triathalon will be a piece of cake in comparison. Someone needs to come up with clipless heels for acc. I hope people post pics of the parade/event. I am so annoyed I mised it. Yeah, I was stuck packing for vacation today (and am presently waiting for my plane at Dulles) but the weather was so NICE!

I think I passed this spectacle as it was headed back west on the Custis, maybe 430ish? My only thought was “TdF must’ve just wrapped up!”

I will say that my kit for the Total200 will be slightly more aerodynamic, but no less flashy. I’ve been working on the ensemble for almost 6 months.

Back on topic: Thanks to Ann and all those people who volunteered to make TdFat a great event. I wasn’t there, but I’ve heard so many positive things about it.

Nice! As someone who’s done it, I have always thought that anyone that rides a bike in heels more than five miles should get triple Strava points or a free foot massage.

Huh. Funny thing is Liz and I were JOKING about posting this. At least I thought we were joking.
I ended up riding back because:
1. The Metro ride in had been *interesting*

3. How could I pass up the chance to ride home uphill in heels, tights, and a tutu? Who needs water? Water is for the weak.

4. Next year when Liz and I pull out of Vienna on our way to Tour De Fat, I hope more people will come along in costume for the fun/spectacle/hilarity of it.
