“Compared with other large corporations, Amazon employees are less likely to commute by car, as about 55 percent either walk, bike or take public transit, according to a survey the company did of its Seattle workforce. The company purchases transit cards for employees and is building a dedicated cycle track to separate bikes from cars near its Seattle buildings.”

It has been determined that it will be (unofficially, of course) renamed the Four Mile Run Delta. Or “Jesse’s Landing at Four Mile Run Delta” in order to encourage commuting by kayak.

Might need to coerce Alexandria to put the brakes on the raw sewage discharge for that to work…..I cringe every time I see the paddleboarders of the Potomac or DC Triathlon postponed due to health concerns… https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/triathlon-cancels-swim-due-to-water-quality-in-potomac-river/316067042

Alexandria’s CSO’s are all downstream from Four Mile Run, so Jesse’s Landing should be fine (and more seriously there is a plan in place for all of them – a heap big expensive plan – hopefully the Commonwealth will chip in as they have for other cities with CSO’s.)

It’s tidal through there though, so you’re not entirely free of any CSOs (i.e., shit flows upstream too).

I clicked through an article on ArlNow to Amazon’s HQ2 job listings and noticed that one of the things they tout is:

“Bike-friendly access
Space for 600 bikes in on-site bike facilities, with plans to construct a new portion of the cycle path on South Eads Street to help link Arlington’s cycling infrastructure.”

Gonna need more tables at NL(née CC)CC.

The County will be building the 2-way PBL shown at the bottom of the rendering (it’s the Army Navy Drive Complete Streets project expected construction start: Spring 2022, expected constrution completion: Fall of 2024)

The developer would be expected to build their side of the Eads Street PBL (shown on the left side of the rendering) as part of building construction, with the County building the far side (as part of the next phase of the South Eads Complete Streets project hopefully this year?)
