ParticipantInteresting, some of us touched on this topic at Friday Coffee Club (I think it was). I have a pollution mask I don on some really bad air quality days and it has a similar effect.
I didn’t know they were specifically for endurance. Maybe I should try this, endurance is not my strong suit.

Participantyes the mask is being pushed for those in MMA fighting. Hoever, the company is reaching out as it does make sense. Go to Youtube, its pretty effective. I am becoming a believer!

It makes you breath harder as if you were working out in high elevation.
Couldn’t you just work harder in the first place without buying something?

Participantfor like 18 cents I’ll sell you a straw and 3 inches of duck tape.

ParticipantWouldn’t it be more appropriate to sleep with it? You know: train low, sleep high. Not that I’m advocating people sleep with something that may inhibit their breathing.

ParticipantThe best piece of advice I’ve heard for riding your bike faster is to just pedal faster.

The one I got in MTB racing was “brake less”
In this case, an over/undergeared fixie should probably do the trick (depending if you want cardio or anaerobic/bad knees)

ParticipantSome MMA fighters also drink their own urine. (Not kidding!) While MMA fighters train hard and can kick ass, I’m not so sure it’s great to follow all of their training practices.

ParticipantI used one that resembled SCUBA gear when I was training for high altitude climbing in Russia a few decades and change ago. I felt like it helped me deal with climbing at altitudes of over 18,000 feet. I don’t really have much to compare it to. I have hurt more at altitude after similar levels of training, but that was at higher altitude and under different conditions and on a different continent. I couldn’t really compare my fitness to other climbers since their preparations, base fitness and home altitude was quite different from mine. I haven’t even considered using one to help with flatland training. Interesting information though. Thanks for sharing that. I’ll be interested in hearing how you like it as the summer goes on. For me it was really hard to deal with summer heat while using the breathing mask.
