Both of those in the same day, Galibier up the Telegraphie and THEN he climbs up Alpe d’Huez. Complete awesomeness.

Awww…thanks guys! First off, it would’ve sucked a lot more without Meg’s support…she graciously took the day to roll SAG for me and take photos. Second, it was tough, but it’s definitely more of a mental challenge than a physical one, since it’s 6 hours of grinding at about 6mph and 60rpm cadence. Third, it’s really easy to get vertigo while riding a bike and looking down 3000 feet.

St. Michel de Maurienne (where I started) from the final stretch of Col du Telegraph…about 2700 feet above the town:

Still plenty of snow at 8700 feet (in case you’re wondering, the sign indicates 10% grade):

This is only about a third of the way up Alpe d’Huez…at least the weather had cleared up by that point:

The view from our hotel room kinda sucks though…

I too am envious; that looks awesome!

I think I have just decided what I want to do for my 40th birthday :) (Granted, that’s still 6 years away, but something to look forward to.)

We’ve been looking forward to the trip for a while now too! And as our next stop is Nice, and the time trials, we’ll have plenty more photos and stories to tell!

Sounds great. The more the merrier! And I am sure I will need some logistics advice.

Now I just have to make sure to keep my fitness up so I can enjoy it.
