    Looks like great riding.

Isn’t writing “my wife” weird? I’ve been married 6 years (well, 6 years in August) and I remember it being very strange for a while to think that I had a wife.

    Congratulations on the marriage!

That’s some beautiful country up there, it’s great that you’re getting to enjoy it from 2 wheels :)

Well, I just got married this last weekend and I’m on my honeymoon cruise in Alaska, but that hasn’t stopped me from putting some miles in. Yesterday my wife and I rented some bikes in Juneau with another couple and rode about 25 miles up to a glacier and back. Maybe the pics will help you think cold thoughts during the heat wave.

Thank you for sending some coolness to the lower 48! ;) Congratulations on your marriage!

    Jackets! I remember jackets . . .

Enjoy the rest of your honeymoon. Excellent job working in the bike ride. I’m sure that will become part of family lore (“they even rode bikes on their honeymoon!”). Am researching bike rental in Central Park, as Citibikes will not be up and running (apparently) by next week.

Bike and Roll has a rental kiosk in Central Park at the very northern tip by Columbus Circle. Very quick to get on and go. They were only offering comfort hybrids by Trek when I was there a couple of years ago. You may wish to bring your own helmet though because I did not see them disinfect them between users.

I hear the bugs are out in full force in Alaska in the summer. Did you find that to be the case?

When I was in Alaska they told me that the bugs that we call “NoSeeUms” are so big that they call them “YouCanSeeUms.”

We rented bikes at a slightly shady looking place a couple of blocks south of the park, but we were able to reserve on the internet for pretty cheap. Bring your own helmet though. We didn’t wear them but I wouldn’t have trusted the ones at the shop. Best way to see Manhattan by far though.

It’s been about 13 years since I was there, but I recall Mendenhall Glacier being incredibly beautiful…though we viewed it from a sea plane tour. :)

There were a lot of mosquitos amy they were pretty big, but they were only a problem when we stopped. Otherwise it wasn’t any worse than riding the CCT at dusk. And the drivers were very patient! No honking, even when my group made some stupid decisions at a couple of intersections. Thankfully no one was arrested for CWI (cycling while intoxicated), which totally would’ve been the brewery’s fault for offering a flight of free samples….
