ParticipantI’m number 1543 and will be in my blue Bike Arlington kit. Helmet number goes on the front of the helmet, I’ve had the jersey numbers a couple different ways, but most people just put them so you can read them from behind. This is the first year they’ve given us a number for the front of the bike with the timing chip.

I’ll be there around 7am or so to start stretching and to make sure Blucy is ready to roll. I’m number 886 and shouldn’t be too hard to spot – large white guy, solid white jersey, blue Cross Check with white tape.

Absolutely! I’m going to try and get a spot in the metro plaza. If I’m feeling spry, I’ll try and get down there pretty early, but at the very least, I’d like to get there for the start of the women’s race.
See you tomorrow I hope. There’ll probably be a half dozen or so of us from College Park riding down. Should get there a bit before 11am, so should be able to see the women finish. Feel free to grab a table along the route and flag us down? For ID, look for me in the yellow helmet with helmet light and wearing Proteus jersey. Will probably ride the Super Nova with GoPro. Laurie will probably ride her Orbea. -Jeff

I’m planning on getting there just before 7:00. I think we should just head to the start line and gravitate towards the front….we should be able to spot one another pretty easily. Of course if someone knows a landmark that would be a good place to meet down there I’m happy to defer to that. My wife will also be coming to cheer me/us on so if any of your SO’s were thinking of coming they wouldn’t be alone. My plan is to try and avoid riding in the middle of the pack as I am assuming this is where all the bottlenecks and delays will occur in the first few laps. Hopefully we can get a good start position and avoid most of the shenanigans.

ParticipantStay on your toes and be alert if you are watching the pro races, especially at the finish. I was near the finish line for the men’s Sunday race last year. About 100 ft. from the finish, two of the cyclists clipped wheels and one guy went down. He slid on his rear end (not rear wheel) for about 50 ft. Then he got up and jogged across the finish line, narrowly avoiding a collision with the other cyclists who zipped past him.
I was so focused on filming the race with my camera that I didn’t realize that the cyclist went down and slid by just inches from me. If he had gone diagonally off the course, he probably would have taken my legs out. So pay attention! Just like at a baseball game. In baseball, there are foul balls and home runs. In cycling (especially crits with fast cyclists riding in tight packs), there are bike crashes.

ParticipantFor those who have them, BikeArlington jerseys could help us spot each other.

ParticipantNo BikeArlington jersey for me – I’ll probably be in a black long sleeve jersey and 3/4 knickers (also black). Rolling on the dark green Surly Disc Trucker. Numero 826

ParticipantAs for attaching the number w/chip to the front of the bike. Any tips so its not flapping around and/or scooping up all the wind?

ParticipantPicking up the ride packet Sunday so I plan to be in line at 6 am. My BA jersey does not match my bike but you do what you have to for the team. Look* for the older guy in a BA jersey riding a visually loud red and white Fuji crabon bike. I
* “Look” as in look out for, I seem to be running a streak of flops.

Does it have to go on the front? What about top tube/down tube facing sideways? Or behind your saddle?

ParticipantThey said front, but I was hoping to hang it in the front triangle. May take it unattached and see when I get there

Yea, totally lost on the front ‘billboard. I have my garmin out front and I am not seeing the two making friends. Anybody got a picture of the proper attachment?
