It’s the person on reddit who referred you.

I’m guessing it’s 83(b)?

However, I’m a bit concerned about all the ramps on Washington Blvd (don’t want to get hit by people turning into/out of Pentagon) if I commute every morning and evening. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do?
Boundary Channel Drive has fewer crossings than the Washington Blvd. trail. and is not as far out of the way as the Mt. Vernon Trail
MAPWhere do you go under 395? You can also get to Boundary Channel on the Pentagon side via the parking lots and Connector Road, which might be shorter than via Long Bridge Park. Something more like this (MAP).

Is 26USC83b a reference to 26 US Code 83 Section b? If so, I’m confused. I need to know the back story behind this username now…
26 U.S. Code § 83 – Property transferred in connection with performance of services
(b) Election to include in gross income in year of transfer
(1) In general
Any person who performs services in connection with which property is transferred to any person may elect to include in his gross income for the taxable year in which such property is transferred, the excess of—
(A) the fair market value of such property at the time of transfer (determined without regard to any restriction other than a restriction which by its terms will never lapse), over
(the amount (if any) paid for such property.
If such election is made, subsection (a) shall not apply with respect to the transfer of such property, and if such property is subsequently forfeited, no deduction shall be allowed in respect of such forfeiture.
(2) Election
An election under paragraph (1) with respect to any transfer of property shall be made in such manner as the Secretary prescribes and shall be made not later than 30 days after the date of such transfer. Such election may not be revoked except with the consent of the Secretary.October 8, 2015 at 4:18 pm #1039166Choiboy525

I think that first route makes more sense. The current route that I’ve been taking is this (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/38.8657823,-77.0640011/38.9012859,-77.057381/@38.8848847,-77.0730383,14.25z/data=!4m2!4m1!3e1″). Putting in my actual beginning and end, your first suggestion doesn’t take any extra time. I’ll try this out as soon as I can. Thanks!!

ParticipantMy commute takes me from Pentagon City to L’Enfant Plaza. This is the route I do. I highly recommend cutting through the Pentagon reservation via the Connector Road, Boundary Channel drive (you can take the sidewalk if you choose), then cutting through Columbia Island to pick up the MVT. The drivers on the Pentagon reservation and Boundary Drive are very well behaved and drive relatively slow. Check a map before you go because there are one way streets around one of the parking lots. I don’t ever take the Wash Blvd route any more because of the crossings and narrow trail.

ParticipantDo you know of any way to take MVT on to Memorial Bridge? I have to get up to Dupont Circle, so going south there doesn’t make too much sense.

If you continue past the 14th Street Bridge(s) upstream you will cross the Humpback Bridge. Continue upstream about a half mile and there will be a crosswalk across the GW Memorial Parkway that has some warning lights you can activate. Traffic is often going really fast so: be really alert, use the warning lights and make eye contact with the drivers (watch the second lane as cars often attempt to pass the one that is stopping for you).
Follow the trail and stay right when it forks. You will cross an roadway connecting Washington Blvd to the GWMP (this is a better crossing because it is only one lane) and then you will get to Memorial Circle and the bridge.

ParticipantIf you are going KLizotte’s way on Boundary Channel, there is no advantage to going to the MVT if you want to cross Memorial Bridge. Just stay on Boundary Channel and go up the sidewalk next to the ramp to Washington Blvd. You’ll be on the Washington Blvd sidewalk and go straight to cross the ramp south to the Parkway, the 2 lane ramp to the Bridge and then the one lane ramp. The first ramp has almost no traffic. The following crossings are about the same difficulty that you would be facing if you took the MVT.
Personally, I would just take the Washington Blvd trail the entire way from Columbia Pike. It’s basically a trade-off of distance and riding on Army Navy vs. riding on Columbia Pike for a bit and the narrow sidewalk and 2 additional ramps.
Also, in winter, the 27 sidewalk is likely to be the only way plowed.

ParticipantWhen you come off of Columbia Island you go under Humpback Bridge via a small tunnel that deposits you just north of the George Mason Bridge on the MVT. You could just stay on MVT to go to Memorial Bridge but you will have to deal with two not so great road crossings to get to the bridge.
Alternatively, you could take the George Mason Bridge then head north on East Basin to Ohio Drive which will take you to the Lincoln Memorial area. Hop on to the sidewalk next to the Potomac at the John Ericsson Memorial roundabout so that you go under Memorial Bridge and that takes you to the Rock Creek Park trail and stay on that till you hit M or P street. This route allows you to avoid lights and scary crossings almost the entire way. This is how I travel from Pentagon City to my dentist who is based two blocks south from the Dupont Circle. Takes me 40 minutes (I go about 12 mph avg); it’s 7.5 miles.
I’ve plotted the route out here: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/10728383/edit

ParticipantIf you’re going to get on the MVT, I’d advise staying on it until the TR Bridge (I66), as shown in this route. The path on the bridge is narrow. You have to basically stop to pass people. But I think it beats the alternatives.

ParticipantThanks for all the advice everyone! I’ve definitely got a couple routes to try out over the next few weeks. Thanks again!
