I can’t afford to be a gear masher. Spin to win is equivalent to knee preservation, and I’ve been really spoiled by triples.
So why not keep using triples? Yes, they’re unfashionable, but so what?

Like paint colors…. ¡Ay, caramba!. No I don’t want to crowdsource that one. :p
Your bike should be pink.

You know, if you just used shift levers, none of this would be a problem.
Wait a minute… I thought you said that more than one gear was unnecessary.

Triples are mostly out of stock, at least at prices I want to pay. I’m still trying to use them, but am reaching down into steel chainring square taper territory lately. Wish I had picked up several Deore trekking sets when they were 50-75 bucks.

Yeah. Keep the easy decisions easy. Except it should be orange.

They do Rohloff drives too, not sure how they solve shifters for drop bars.
Co-Motion makes one of the better shifters that will operate a Rohloff hub on a drop bar. It’s a rotating sleeve that slides up next to the stem. Just reach over and click it forward or backward.

Anyone who has seen my Wolverine knows that orange is already taken.

Your Wolverine is Exhibit A that orange is the best color for a bike.

It’s not an option unless I want to buy the frame and build it myself. I’ll be happy with an Ultegra double if it’s the right gear range. Still working out whether CoMo will jigger their stock setup for me, or if I’ll do that myself later.
“Orange” is way too general for these folks, the question is WHICH orange? Emm, they did just add a new pink. Alas…. mine will be neither of those.

Glitter is nice. Looks great on my purple Straggler…hmm…I haven’t ridden that bike in a while, now that I think of it.

ParticipantI am a big fan of internal gear hubs with belt drives. The biggest deterrent for drop bar users is that Rohloff hub comes with twist shifters, but according to the article below, there is an after market part that allows Rohloff hub to be used with drop bar shifters and any other shifters. The catch is that you won’t be able to use all 14 speeds, just the same number as the shifter supports, and you wouldn’t need Ultegra when 105 has the same speeds.

Here is the part that they talk about:
And where to buy it in the US($253):

ParticipantI test-rode a road bike with internal transmission (Pinion or Rohloff? I forgot which one…) at Bikenetic a couple of years ago. Loved the utter simplicity of a single shifter for the entire range. This drop-bar bike had a twist shifter on the bar end, but one adapted from a flat bar setup. As such, it had rather pointy edges transitioning to the bar. Were it mine, I would’ve taken a file to it. I will trust that someone has resolved that complaint by now.

Participantalternatively, consider trekking bars (which can use flat bar shifters) but still offer a lot of hand positions.

Yes. Just cleaned it today (for the first time ever, believe it or not).
