I want Spring. Wait. No. I NEED Spring. And looking at the forecast we’re at least a week or more off. But that isn’t going to stop me from dreaming — dreaming about sunshine, warm breezes and picnics. Wait … I have an idea. WE SHOULD GO FOR A BIKE RIDE!
So here is the plan. I’m going to keep an eye on the weather and when I see a day in, I hope, the next few weeks where we flirt with 70 degrees, I’m going for a bike ride. A bike ride during lunch, in real sunshine, around the Mall. I’m not going to rush and I’m going to picnic. And you should come too!
The plan will be to meet at the CABI station at Smithsonian around 12:15pm. Bring your lunch. We’ll circle the Mall, maybe head to Haines Point, stop for our picnic and then head back to the office. I’m guessing we’ll be out more than an hour but surely the powers that be understand that a 70 degree day after this winter warrants a long lunch! Who knows, if we time it right, this ride might even coincide with the Cherry Blossoms.

Stay tuned for details!
Is anyone interested in a Ballston lunch meet-up?

I’m in! We could meet at Welburn Square in Ballston because that’s where all the food trucks park and there’s a nice grassy area to sit.

ParticipantI work in Clarendon, so Ballston is definitely do-able for a lunch/picnic ride!

ParticipantHave you heard?? Another polar vortex is headed our way next week and the result will be this:
That sounds like perfect picnic weather! I’m booked on Wednesday but what about Tuesday, Thursday or(and) Friday? Anyone interested and have a preference for day(s)?

ParticipantI’m old enough to remember when we just called that a cold front. Last year.

Cold front, polar vortex. Call it what you will. I call it awesome and a good excuse to go for a bike ride and picnic!

I’ll gladly try to join again. I think my lunch hours are looking pretty open next week. Loving this more sensible summer weather!

ParticipantThis forecast is holding and, although Thursday might be a smidge warmer, mid 80s still sounds plenty picnicable to me. Let’s meet on Thursday at 12:15pm at the CABI station closest to the Smithsonian Metro exit Mall side. We’ll gather and then depart for a TBD lunch location. I’ll do my best to find us a spot that doesn’t have a crazy wedding going on this time!
Let me know if you plan on coming and we’ll wait for you. If you get there and we’ve already left quickly post to the forum. I’ll check it and tell you where we are!

ParticipantI plan on being there again! Was fun to meet the avatars last time. Looking forward to it.

There’s a 95% chance that I’m in! Just have to confirm the work schedule. Will post with certainty this afternoon.
(Also, Friday would definitely work for me if there is any consideration of a date change.)

ParticipantI’m more of a 50/50. Right now I am free for lunch, but my office is very short handed this summer, so I never know when I get handed something that “absolutely has to get cleared by close of business.”

ParticipantGonna try to make this one. 90%.

ParticipantI’m definitely in! Folks above who posted less than 100% likelihoods, please advise by sometime tomorrow morning so we’ll know whether or not to wait for you at the meeting point.
