A Third Thursday Happy Hour and celebration of our amazing success in helping not just WABA, but three (!) biking organizations meet their full $10,000 Clif challenges, will be held at Capitol City Brewery in Shirlington after your workday on August 16.

All are welcome, including significant others, friends, and especially those new to this forum. This is a no-host event, but Cap City will have their usual Thursday specials with reduced pricing for seasonal brews and selected appetizers from 4 to 7 p.m., and $2 core brews all evening long.

RSVPs are greatly appreciated by Cap City management so they can reserve tables for us and provide good service and individual checks. Just let me know a few days in advance and I’ll pass the info along to them on August 14 or 15.

Parking information for cars and bikes is attached below. In addition, covered bike parking (inverted U racks) is available on the Cap City side of the Shirlington bus station.

My wife: “We’re thinking of moving to Arlington”
Claire (DismalScientist’s young daughter) to my wife: “You’re gonna move to Arlington?”
My wife to Claire: “What do you think, should we move to Arlington?”
Claire: “Well, what’s your financial situation?”

They grow up so fast….

Honestly, folks, no thanks are necessary! All I did was call in the number of people. You all made the party. So many thanks to everyone who came and made it a great evening!

By popular demand, we’ll try to do it again on Sept. 20, same time, same place.

I find myself liking a lot of the posts on this thread. Sorry I couldn’t make it this time, but if it makes you all feel better, I did get to the DC Beer Week event at Meridian Pint, the best beer bar in DC, with my wife and kids. Ommegang beers paired with vegetarian tapas == awesome.

I’ll start planning for the 9/20 gathering now.

Good to see those that were still there, and actually meet/talk to some of the newer faces (krazygl00 – nice to meet y00!)

Kathy – thanks for the KC bike sticker! That was a cool inner tube wallet you had too.

Thanks! I like that recycled innertube wallet too – it fits perfectly in a jersey pocket and is mostly waterproof. Nancy Mcdonald at http://www.re-velo.com makes them.

OK, just for fun, I stitched together my rides for the day LOL (thanks Kathy for the suggestion)

I had to use Runkeeper so it wouldn’t screw up my Strava, especially since the route makes jumps where I catch a bus from New Carrollton Metro to Bowie, then back. And the Metro ride from Metro Center to Medical Center, so it wasn’t a 70 mile day, more like a 55. Definitely worth it for cheap beer, delicious wings, and awesome friends (not sure the adjectives are in the right places there)

That is an absurd route… you also get a bonus for helping fix a flat… I will throw in a Hostess SnoBall to accompany your Twinkie and Ding Dong! BTW, I fall into the “Cheap friends and delicious beer” category.

Thanks for y’all putting up with the rug rats. They get a little antsy after three pints of root beer.

I can’t stop staring.

The oversized axe. The chrome hard hat. The suspenders. The flannel. The BELT BUCKLE!

Someone put down a ghost tree at the site of dbb’s tree killing. We must all promise to ride a few extra miles to make up for the tree that dbb is responsible for having killed. Amen.
