ParticipantSpeaking of pings, sonar and submarines, some scuba diving friends of mine just found the U-550 off of Nantucket. Much excitement about this in the wreck diving world.

ParticipantIt reminds me of the heady days of Sputnik and Yuri Gagarin when the world trembled at the sound of our rockets. Now they will tremble again – at the sound of our bells.

ParticipantBattle stations!
See y’all soon, running a bit late since we had a phishing outbreak right at the end of the day.

ParticipantMaybe I’ll go to one of these later in the fall. Too busy with training right now. Swimming and biking almost every day. Running about 5 days a week. A few core workouts too. Even after the triathlon, I’m going to put more emphasis on running for the Marine Corps Marathon.
I’ve also found that alcohol doesn’t always mix so well with endurance training. The occasional beer is fine. But I tried having a couple mixed drinks last month, the night before some long workouts the next day. My stomach did not like that at all. It also caused my heart to start racing and I experienced nausea, which normally never happens. Once I cleared everything from my system, I was back to normal. But it was an unpleasant experience. I won’t be a complete teetotaler for the next two months, but I’ll be pretty close to that.
Enjoy the happy hour.

Oof, bummer. That’s yer problem right there – time to stop the next-day long workouts.
(I kid, I kid!)

Participantthank you, Kathy, for another awesome happy hour!!!!!!!1111
seriously, that was a great time. I was worried no one would be there when I was planning on arriving, but there was still a 1/2 full group even when I finally left at 8! The prices and service at Cap City is awesome, that was well worth the ~20 mile ride down for it 😎
FYI, I ended up taking 1/8ths suggestion and biked to Metro Center. The knee wasn’t in the game for the ride back to Bethesda

Participantoh, just a quick “good will” story. At the point where 4-mile run and Shirlington road crosses, where I came out to ride up the block to Cap City was a gentleman with a flat. Oddly enough, he had just purchased the bike from REI and apparently they had serviced it. Well, they serviced the valve-stem right out of the back tire! I have no idea how he got where he did, unless it worked itself loose. I ended up gifting him my spare tube and changing it for him too. It would’ve been a good “teachable” moment, but I was already a bit after 6, and was antsy for a beer (1 beer, 1 beer only)…..(ok, it was two beers)…. so I only was 1/2 good samaritan. Hopefully he’ll learn how for the next time! I did point him to Bike Arlington, so hopefully he’ll pop in and get some good tips and pointers. (Hi Malcom, if you do!)
