Got the cape and I rock it- but Little Red Riding Hood I ain’t. I just walked out of Wakefield and watched two MTB people ride by wearing half of the forest. I have also seen them suited up in enough body armor to be on point in Kandahar. That combined with my poor sense of direction would result in many hilarious stories but…

And yet, I think he would be a nice addition.

I am just a wannabe mountain bike enthusiast, but I’m married to one and the sister of one. My brother swears that one needs a full suspension mountain bike after the age of 40. My husband disagrees and he is well north of 40.

Not saying anyone is over 40, just putting that out there for information.

Having said that, I would probably look at other bikes, too, if I had my heart set on a new mountain bike. I don’t know of any specific brands or models. Talk to the sales staff at various bike shops and tell them how you would like to use the bike and your budget. Consider where it fits in your stable of bikes. In other words, can this bike to just serve a single function, or does it also have to take you to pick up groceries, etc. If it is just for mountain biking, than that helps narrow the choices.

Oh Liz, you are dead on the money. CCrew understood too, the bike is way more than I need to prance up and down the CCT or C&O. It was just great chemistry, love at first sight. I know I can handle this bike, he fits well in my hands, has great lines, and is what I’m looking for to roll over potholes, gravel, and small children. It is one of those, “I know it when I see it moments.” I’m just trying to talk myself out of it. But I’ll probably end up buying him drinks and luring him into my car.

I did, and actually still do, but unless Ann’s higher altitude of about 5’8″ it’ll probably be too big. Besides, I understand the appeal to a particular bike.

My wife will ride with her though, she actually likes going out in the mud on a MTB and coming back looking like a day at the mud spa. I understand the attraction….

And btw, I’m well north of 40… the wife not so much

Heck, I’m happy to be north of 5 feet. Five foot eight is the stuff dreams are made of. And while I have plenty of junk around the house more than twenty years old, VCR player, Game Boy, and tax returns, I try to keep my technology and bikes in this era. Toys are fun.

CCrew, now I see why you don’t waste your time hanging out with us in the evenings.

Are you planning to do the whole C&O? My husband and a friend are going to do it in October, and if it goes well, they may repeat it with the families in a future year.

My 17 year old sneers at all things bike, completely devoted to cars, drifiting cars, filming cars drifting, and working on cars.

My 9 year old has a little hybrid and a little bike kit we picked out for him yesterday because he wants to come out with me a bit. Until now I haven’t felt competent enough to keep him safe and out of trouble.

But my little guy is a long way from serious riding.

So little faith…No worries, I was a nurse, I am certified in the use of restraints. But I am *tied up* at the moment with a “School’s Out Forever Sleepover” in other words I’ve spent the day loading super soakers and water balloons. I hope to get out there Friday before the weekend.

We’ve all been there, right? You meet someone, the chemistry is amazing, the conversation is easy. Then you meet his best friend…
I went down to Spokes in Vienna and met a Specialized Ariel, tried him out so to say, and it was magic.

I ordered an upgraded model, the Elite, and he should be here next Friday. He looks just like a killer whale so naming him was easy. Free Willy.
