ParticipantI have family in Honolulu so I’ve spent a lot of time there over the years. Haven’t done much biking, but I’m happy to recommend other stuff to do if you’re interested!
I do see a ton of bikes on the highway that goes past Hanauma bay – it’s a beautiful road (and a big hill), but the drivers are too busy looking around for me to trust them there
I also see a lot of bikes around the Kailua/Lanaikai area, and along the beaches on the north shore.
Hope you have a good trip!

I wouldn’t do it. I did it two years ago on a rented fatbike and there were a few challenging spots even on 4″ tires. Would MAYBE consider a crossbike, knowing I’d have to walk in quite a few spots. It’s an amazing ride.

ParticipantA lot of it’s like this – it COULD be done on skinny tires, but my co-worker (in the photos) and I definitely appreciated the extra cushioning.

I didn’t get any pics of the really nasty spots, at least none that I can find.
The scenery is just incredible.
