A good reason to ride to Purcellville on the W&OD

You’ve seen them standing around at the trail’s end in Purcellville, hot and tired cyclists listlessly chewing on energy bars and drinking tepid water as they gather their fortitude for the long slog back towards home on the W&OD. If they only lifted their heads up and over the small outbuilding they’d discover an oasis of food and beer at Magnolia’s http://magnoliasmill.com/Gallery.php
Because I believe in hands-on research, I rode up to Purcellville on New Year’s Eve to taste for myself. In the name of quality assurance I tested the Allagash White Wheat Ale just to be sure I could give an informed opinion. It was sublime. If you don’t care for that, they have forty other varieties. The food is good too.
In the summer months they open up the patio. I’ll have to go back to try it out.

Only made worse by the fact that it’s all downhill all the way back to Leesburg
There are other tasty dining establishments in Purcellville, such as Mom’s Place, Penn’s Kitchen, etc.
If it is spirits you are interested in, Purcellville also has Catoctin Distillery ( http://catoctincreekdistilling.com/ ).
Leesburg also has Vintage 50 brewery ( http://www.restaurantbreweryloudoun.com/ ).

There’s roughly a 170 foot rise from around Ivandale to Clarke’s Gap. Otherwise, yes.
Noticed a bike commuter this morning climbing Rt 9 on the approach to the Rt 7 bridge using the shoulder instead of the trail. Wasn’t acting as a vehicular cyclist, so not sure why he was making that statement. That stretch of the road can be quite chaotic at rush hour.
I’ve been with two different large groups of cyclists at Magnolias on either a Saturday or Sunday and they have been very accommodating so far. We try to get there as soon as they open before they get real busy. Have been seated both inside and on the patio.
Someone in Purcellville recommended the BBQ in Paeonian Springs, but it looks like they don’t serve until mid afternoon.
I also give a thumbs up to the Doner Bistro in Leesburg. If you are not up for the meal, ride around the corner and get a slice of pie , put it in your jersey pocket (it’s in a sealed container
). It’s too bad the Milwaukee Frozen Custard in Leesburg is now closed, that was good on top of the pie slice. 
I’ll have to see if I can find their shop in Ashburn, the one in Herndon is about a half mile north on Eldon off the trail.
