ParticipantHow about “Davy Jones’s Bakfiets”? (Did I mention I do a lot of kid-centered riding — my husband is into it too, and we have a bakfiets, which is his daily bike, and an elBoda, which is my daily bike, plus some non-e-bikes, mostly roadies).
As for a ride, it looks like I’m leading a Kidical Mass Arlington ride on SUNDAY afternoon in Pentagon City. The ride itself will be short, but coming from N. Arlington, the round trip will be some solid miles. Details soon.

ParticipantSo here’s I think everything that’s been suggested so far:
Boomer: Buccaneers, Blimeys, Cutlasses, Dungbies , Freebooters, Hornswaggles , Swashbucklers, Scallywags, Seadogs, Shark bait
Sjclaeys: Team Dread Pirate Black Heart
DKel: Merciless black hearts, Scurvy scalawags, Salty dogs, Rolling raiders, Biking buccaneers, Pedalin’ pirates
Me: Salty Dogs, Courtland Milloy’s Frozen Heart
Dasgeh: Davy Jones’s Bakfiets, Heart Maker Shop, Courtland Milloy’s heart, Lon Anderson’s cardiologistBased on general discussion, it seems the Courtland Milloy ones are out. There are certain forum members who take exception to use of the term “Dread” in team names.
Looking at “likes” etc., the names that seem to have some traction are:
Black Hearts (on our HH name tags & sorta default original name)
Davy Jones’s Bakfiets (dasgeh)
Salty Dogs (me and DKel (I missed that DKel had already suggested this one when I re-suggested it))
A pirate themed name that’s not listed above (from among Boomer’s one-word pirate themed names or DKel’s two word pirate themed names -[we could choose from among those after the voting if the one/two word pirate names are chosen]I could add or subtract from this list and do a quick survey monkey poll (or we could just vote here). Before people start voting, are there any other suggestions (or did I miss anything)?

Thanks for summing up the options. My vote is for the Salty Dogs! Arghhh!

Should I mention that I’m really not a dog person? Especially after one bit my then-18-month-old this summer?

ParticipantOK, well that kind of killed things for agreeing on a name. My vote is still for the Salty Dogs given the reasons posted by Alcova cyclists that it refers to the salt on our tires and has a nautical theme that fits with acting like pirates rather than referring to dogs themselves. Of course, we can always stick with Team 5, which is boring but unlikely to offend.

I like this idea – I’m trying to work my schedule so I can attend.
I might be able to do it too depending on parenting duties. It is about an 8 mile ride from my neighborhood in Madison Manor, so that it an option, though will depend on the condition of Holmes Run Trail.

Only if I can mention that I’m really not a bakfiets person. :p

ParticipantAnd I don’t even know how to say bakfiets.

ParticipantI had to google it to even know what it was.

I vote for “Salty Dogs” too!

ParticipantI’m going to vote for salty dogs as well. Now that I’ve googled bakfiet, I might try to find one for taking the pup on rides.

ParticipantI see about 20 suggestions. If people really want to be dogs, I really don’t care, but it’s seems like a shitty way to start off a team. Not that it matters.
