BTW, for team challenges, it’s helpful to know where people are and where/when they’re willing to ride. E.g. I’m not willing to go to Maryland, so organizing a team thing involving Maryland means I’m out (not that that should preclude it, but if a bunch of us are non-Marylanders, then it’s not really worth organizing something that direction).

    Good advice in general!

Is anyone on this team from MD?

I think this is a Virginia-dominated team and happy hour locations will reflect such allegiances.

I am in central Arlington. Best chances for me to ride are Saturdays or early Sunday mornings (done by 11:30 or so). I might be able to get away for a lunchtime ride in central DC (I work just south of the national mall on 12th ST SW). Haines Point is quite close.

Just FYI, you all indicated in registration that you preferred to be on a Virginia-based team, so most or all of you are in VA.

We should settle on a team name to build esprit de corps and have something better to shout at the competition than “Go Team 5!”. The suggestions so far are for a Courtland Milloy-themed name or a pirate-themed name. I like the pirate themed named because it is fun, it gives me an excuse to talk like a pirate and I’d rather not give Courtland Milloy any more exposure. Nonetheless, I will go with whatever the team wants to do. Please try to share your thoughts by tonight.

I’m fine with whatever, as long as there’s no Dread reference. ;-)

    +1.

Merciless black hearts? (Not very piratey, but goes with our original icon.)
    Scurvy scalawags?
    Salty dogs?
    Rolling raiders?
    Biking buccaneers?
    Pedalin’ pirates?

    I don’t think I’m very good at this…

Falls Church City here. I work far away from DC, so you all will have to take lunch rides without me. Also, I work Sundays, so only Saturday group rides will work for me. Hate to be the sticky wicket…

Take a cue from jrenaut and call yourself Team 5: Steve O’s Team 2

    Or Steve ‘s team

Other teams seem to be introducing themselves, which is probably useful.

I’m David. I met several at happy hour, and I’m looking forward to meeting the rest at some team event. I don’t do lots of big rides, but I’m pretty good to ride every day, despite the weather, and as a commuter, the miles will add up (to a big win for the team, I hope). I did BAFS last year for the first time as a new cycling commuter, without studded tires, or special gear, or experience, and I managed to ride every day, even if just around my neighborhood, and ended up in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard (much to my surprise). This forum is a really superb resource for all your winter riding questions; it got me through last year’s challenge. Let’s all get out there and ride! Remember, a short ride on most days will get you more points than a long ride on rare occasions.

So, when’s our team happy hour?

The only wickets I know are the proverbial sticky ones, and the ones in croquet.

Hi Everyone! Sorry I’ve been slow on this forum… I’m new to all of this but am excited to participate! I wasn’t able to make it to the happy hour last week but hope to meet the team soon! My names Maddie, I live in Ballston and commute most days to work in the Tenleytown area. I try to go on longer rides on the weekend but the nasty weather sometimes puts a damper on that. Hope to see everyone soon!

Steve O and Dread, who invited you into our thread?
