ParticipantI just took the folding bike in. If it’s really bad, I can now just jump on metro.
Watch out for my greasy seatpost and oily drivetrain, metro riders! Muahaha.

Might want to print out that press release and have a METRO contact number on speed dial…

I have an early day tomorrow, in to work by 5am, so riding isn’t really an option (also using it as a clothes-swap day). Hopefully this means I’ll miss any weather-induced traffic delays, since I’ll be heading home a couple hours before rush hour.
Out of curiosity, why can’t you ride in that late — er, early?

Ride = 70ish minutes
Drive = 19 minutes
So the difference effectively is waking up at 0315 to ride or 0400 to drive…combined with the nasty weather forecast, it was just easier to drive. Had the forecast been for decent weather, maybe I’d have thought about riding, but getting up 45 minutes earlier at that hour is a lot to ask of me.

ParticipantWell, I rode, so I’m stuck with it. If it’s really bad, I can catch various buses around where I need to get, but that is very slow. If things are way too bad, I’ll hide until 7pm and hop a metro train.

ParticipantRode in today and the trails were pretty empty. Nice tailwind at Gravelly Point. Got to work nice and dry, but we’ll see how the afternoon goes.

Yeah, it was a strong south wind so heading up the Potomac was a breeze after the slog along the W&OD/4MRT.
Although after that tail wind, it did feel almost like hitting a wall as I made the right turn around the parking lot and the port-o-johns before bearing left again at the river and getting back into the tailwind stream.

It actually applies to most of the counties from central North Carolina up to the PA line, so it includes the entire DC area. For now the watch is until 7pm but they could cancel it early.

I need to get one of these great weather sites you all use bookmarked and open at all times. I figured it was much more wide spread than just MoCo, but MoCo has an awesome “411-911” text messaging system that I was quoting. It’s pretty cool, I don’t know if other counties have it, but I get alerts on all kinds of emergency situations; weather, road closures, accidents, etc.

SHELTER IN PLACE!
I recommend a place with beer and sausages.

ParticipantFor my dogs, on a day like today – SHELTER IN PLACE pretty much means the couch.

I actually scouted my route via Google last week for good beer spots on hot days where I needed a recharge. My options are extremely limited, I’m sad to say

ParticipantSPC bumped us up to a moderate risk for severe this afternoon. That’s what we were 2 weeks ago when the last severe weather hit the area. It’s a similar scenario, but will come from a different direction.
It looks like they’re worried about the winds mostly in the form of a narrow but fast moving squall line later today. The winds at the mid and upper levels are screaming right now so all it would take to get those winds to mix down is a line of thunderstorms associated with the cold front.
So for those that rode in today (props) if you can adjust your departure to avoid any squall lines later today then you should be fine. It will still be breezy and blustery all day, but nothing crazy.
