    Yeah, I didn’t read about it until Sunday afternoon. I happened to notice a news headline on my Facebook feed, from the NBC Washington page. By that time, it was probably too late. Even Saturday morning was probably too late.

    I don’t understand why the authorities did not immediately alert the public. Even a few simple messages to the local cycling and running clubs which frequent this area on weekends could have resulted in hundreds of additional eyes looking for her.

    I was thinking the same thing as you guys riding home the other night. If the police/family/media alerted folks who use the trails a lot (running groups/cyclists/even the MVT Facebook page), it would probably help them a lot. Shoot a post alone here would have probably ensured 20 people were looking on their rides home. And those of who use it every day also know the knooks and crannies where you may not see someone.

    She was spotted on the trail (by security cameras) later in the day, around 6:30 or 7 pm. Bike rush hour seems to end earlier on Fridays. I don’t usually see that many people on Friday evenings on the trails. It was also cool that evening, which means that casual cyclists and walkers probably avoided the trail that day.

    I did go for a casual ride that evening but down toward Alexandria, on Potomac Ave., not on the trail.
