I took last year off, but signed up again this year. Gonna make it a “Fixed-y States Ride.”

Here I go again. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve ridden this beast. We will ride the hills. We will ride the rain. We will ride with fritters. We will ride in pain. We will ride the News, the Norths and Souths, we will ride til we get some pizza in our mouths.

Clearly doing this ride causes serious long term neurological problems.

Or, we will stay in bed and write off the registration fee as a donation to WABA.

They are also looking for volunteers (including bike marshals).

Hmm… It claims all WABA members got an e-mail about this event. I didn’t, even though I’m a member. And since I have no idea what my membership number is, and there appears to be no way to look it up online, I suspect I’m out of luck on registering.

Call WABA today. They are always helpful and will likely send you a replacement card (good for discounts at your LBS)

WABA emails always seem to go to my “Promotions” folder in gmail, and sometimes to my spam folder…

The 50 States Ride is sold out!

If you missed out, perhaps you can console yourself with the “Bike to the Beach Fun Ride” that same day, Saturday September 13th.

Appropriate for all skill levels, this ride will raise awareness and proceeds for local charities – the Arlington Free Clinic and Samaritan Ministry’s work in NOVA. Beach, Aloha and Pirate wear encouraged!

    Check-In: 8:30-9:30, Penrose Square,
    2501 9th Rd S, Arlington VA 22204

    Ride: 9:30-11:00 (principally W&OD trails).

    Finish: Trinity Episcopal Church Lawn
2217 Columbia Pike, Arlington, VA 22204, where Trinity, XSport Fitness, Giant, and Menchie’s will host a cool down social for riders and their family & friends with music and light refreshments 11:00-11:30.

    REGISTER and DONATE at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/beach-on-the-pike-day-bike-to-the-beach-registration-12205271295

FREE, all welcome to ride with registration – with SUGGESTED DONATION of $20.00 per adult rider, with groups and families encouraged to donate as they can. Riders making $20 or more donations will receive coupons for 20% off brunch at any of the participating “Brunch on the Beach!” restaurants on Columbia Pike, as well as for other discounts at event supporters Papillon Cycles, Menchie’s, and RedRocks Bistro.

Riders must provide their own bicycle and bring/wear a helmet during the ride, and be registered and present by 9:20 to attend a pre-ride briefing by Papillon that covers safety and rules of the road and trails.

Keeping my eye on the weather heading into this Saturday. I suckerred 2 co-workers into joining me this year.

Capital Weather Gang is cautiously optimistic about Saturday:
It turns much cooler and less humid on Friday behind the front, with mostly sunny skies overhead. Highs aim for the mid-70s across much of the region. Confidence: Medium

An October-like air mass takes hold of the region this weekend, as highs only reach the upper 60s to near 70 after morning lows near 50 in the suburbs and in the mid-50s downtown (with mid-upper 40s possible in the typically cooler spots). It should be partly-to-mostly sunny on both days. Confidence: Medium

If you weren’t able to get a ticket and still want one, I won’t be able to go. Email me if you’re interested: mcfors@gmail.com

It always rains on 50 States day. Always.

They still need ride marshals—even though I could have ridden for free, even though I already paid, everyone I know is either sitting out or helping out. No more guilting needed—I’m putting on the vest and marshaling this one.

I’ll be working at the Eastern Market stop. Please come by and say “hi”. Should be a fun day!
