I recently moved to Beacon Hill, and had my first opportunity to ride to work this morning.

My previous commute started in Del Ray, and averaged 14 miles up to Takoma Park depending on which turns I took.

My new commute touches 20 miles each way. I know there are others who log these kinds of long miles regularly for your commutes. I’m not new to riding, but I know there will be some adjusting to this longer commute. What kind of strategies to other long distance commuters use to stay on top of your game?

Everyone, it’s ok. By the time all the Class 3, 27mph cyclists with questionable bike handling skills go from being a nuisance to outright dangerous on the no-motorized-vehicles-allowed-MVT, the South Pentagon/Boundary Channel MVT connector will be in place, and my commute will be almost entirely on surface streets, where it will be safer. Y’all can duke it out with the shrunken motorcycles on an 8 foot wide MUP.

    Thanks, critical mass!!!

So it’s good bike handling skills that make the Freds think its safe to thread needles, to pass close at speed, and to not call passes? And to do this by blind curves? I mean there’s plenty of good reason to avoid the MVT apart from ebikes.

And yeah. Critical mass. Forget bike lanes. There are people who want to blame retail woes in Old Town on evil
cyclists stealing parkng spaces. We need people on bikes who vote.
