They had a very good deal on a high floor unit with great views, so we have put down a deposit.

For the commute, I will do either A. King St Sidewalk to Walter Reed MUP to 4MRT to MVT to 14th St Bridge to DC or B. King Street Sidewalk to 28th through Fairlington to Shirlington to 4MRT and so on (that means one extra hill in Fairlington I believe) or C. similar to the above, but bypassing more of King Street sidewalk by using hampton, or even hampton to Braddock to beauregard.

For Agudas (at Valley and Kenwood) I assume I will just go through Fairlington

For leisure rides on the W&OD, I guess the same as the commute route, but then onto W&OD.

For old town Alexandria – not sure. Any better route than Braddock Road?

also – the only bike shop I know around there is Spokes. I will still end up back at bikenetics from time to time (its closer from there to falls church than from Annandale) but it would be nice to have an independent LBS.

Well, not independent LBS, but you also have Performance at Baileys Crossroads and REI at Leesburg Pike and Carlin Springs which are relatively close. In north Old Town you have Wheel Nuts on Montgomery St between Fairfax and Royal, then west of Old Town is Pro Bike Shop on Duke St, and in Old Town is Big Wheel Bikes. Of course, I’m still partial to Bikenetic.

Hope you enjoy the new digs.

That’s good news that you’ve found a place. Plus, it’s close to where the majority of Third Thursday Happy Hours take place in Shirlington (Capital City Brewery) ;)

I would say due to the hassle of traffic, you’re better off using Walter Reed >> 4MR >> MVT

There’s a bicycle coop on Mt Vernon Ave in Del Ray that would be just a short ride away. I’ve only stopped in once, but they seemed very friendly.

To get to the WOD/4MRT, I would take 30th into Fairlington and come down the hill on 31st to Shirlington or 28th to Walter Reed depending on whether I was going west or east on the trail. This avoids most of the sidewalk on King Street. You may find the 34th Street bridge over 395 useful when going east.

I’ve always had good service at the Spokes in Belle Haven and Fairlington. Great mechanics there.

thanks, but it seems there is no safe way to cross King Street at 30th.

Try the north sidewalk along King between Park Center and 30th.

There is a light at King/Rte 7 and Park Center Dr and you can cross to the sidewalk on the north side and then go block to turn left on 30th.

Oh yeah, of course. Haven’t spent time there in years, and just looked at Google maps, without looking closely enough, silly me.

Just down the road @ Barcroft Park you’ll have Phoenix Bikes. Over a ways on Columbia Pike you’ll have Papillon. Both worthy options!

Search for “bike” on Google Maps, and you would get all bike shops in the area. The few times I went to Spokes in Vienna and Fairfax I found that their prices for bike stuff is slightly above retail, I am not sure about their bike prices though.
