I volunteer as tribute … uh, team captain. The two main responsibilities seem to be (1) chasing people down and getting them signed up on Strava and (2) organizing team rides. Anything else?
Making the first year riders get your beer for you.

Hi all. I’d be happy to help organize the welcome happy hour and the end-of-season prize ceremony together with CBGanimal, but only if you don’t mind me abstaining from the team competition this year. Up to you…
You past contributions more than entitle you to be a non-competitive participant. And those are excellent reasons not to compete.

ParticipantI’ll be around gadflying, but like last year, not registering.
I will take the lead on organizing the FSLNHPP.I will also perhaps organize some pointless prizes, rides, events or whatnot. And happy to help with the HHs if needed.

If Chuck or awitt want to take it over, by all means, have fun. But you will be on your own, as I am not going to have much time between now and the end of the year to walk you through the process between work and CX nationals.
If I’m going to be on my own if I decide to take over, does that mean I’m free to come up with a “system” for team assignments that may or may not closely resemble the existing system? And do we absolutely have to have local teams? Since it would be my first time doing it, I’d rather make it as “simple” as possible.

ParticipantCross answered: If you take over, you can assign teams any way you want to. There is no “leadership” above you to tell you how to do it. @chuxtr 182959 wrote:

I clearly need you as my team captain mentor.

As you all know, Freezing Saddles is all run by volunteers. Because I don’t want to get all the requests for help about everything, I’m posting a list here of who is in charge of what. I’m updating it as I confirm who will be in charge of what functions.
Team assignments: Sunyata or chuxtr? Still confirming.
I’ll do team assignments.

If you volunteer for something that’s a big enough PITA, you get to make command decisions without telling anyone or seeking approval.

I’m “happy” to be the Team Assignment Nazi.

Getting me a beer is always a wise move for first year players. I’m crafting a pointless prize for the first year player that brings me the most beers. [emoji23]

ParticipantIf folks are interested in helping out on the technology side, I would welcome contributions from programmers, designers, and people willing to test the software.
This is my first year running it, and I’m still getting my legs pedaling around this excellent system that hozn has so generously created and maintained.
We have a Slack chat system for the maintainers, freezingsaddles.slack.com, that I’d like people who are helping to join. About a dozen people joined that last year, though right now it’s just me, hozn, and jrenaut active on it.
We have the option of opening up the Slack to a wider audience if there is demand. I’d be in favor of that.

I don’t think I ever got a link to join Slack last year. I’d be happy to join this year if it would be helpful, but apparently you need to send me an invitation. And since I’m not really a “maintainer,” it’s just fine if you don’t send me an invitation.
And speaking of invitations, I just sent you a PM regarding getting you onto the administrative systems (to send mail and to see submissions) for Freezing Saddles.

ParticipantI can help with the software part. I’ve got some programming experience and have been trying to set up a local install of the software to figure it out as well. Happy to help with testing.
