This year’s tour is being held on Saturday May 13, out of Reston Town Center.
The Washington metro area American Diabetes Association regional office has had a number of staff turnovers, so the logistics management for this event has been somewhat lacking. One of the areas they have been falling down on is the recruitment of volunteers of all types. In particular, they are looking for experienced riders to act as on-route bike marshals.

Marshals would help out with route guidance (fairly trivial for these routes), assist with minor mechanical issues (e.g., flats) and be a cheerleader for other riders who may be flagging on the route.

Routes range from 108 miles to 16 miles and heavily feature sections of the W&OD. Route details can be found at:

Please contact Sophie Chan-Wood at sopiesudz@aol.com and/or Alex at adystant@diabetes.org if you can help out.

I’ve been a marshal for the NoVA Tour de Cure several times (33, 50 and 100 mile routes), found it a very rewarding way to give back (both to cycling and to support a worthy cause), and encourage you to consider volunteering. Unfortunately I will not be in the area so again cannot volunteer this year.
