Beerneurers,

I want to suggest you consider some multitasking in your pursuit of the Beer Prize, and please remember, beer isn’t just for breakfast anymore! Milk Stout with old fashioned sour cream doughnuts is a sure winner in Two Pointless Prize contests!

Beer #3
Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse – A hefe with a fruity taste and just a slight taste of banana. A good banana flavored hefeweisen is something I generally like, so I’m putting this beer in the win column.

2. Place beer purchased – K-1 Beer & Wine in Arlington
3. Name and location of brewery – Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu, Munich, Germany

#1 Einbecker Ur-Bock Dunkel

1. Purchased January 15, 2017

2. At Total Wine Alexandria, VA

3. Brewed by Einbecker Brauhaus, Einbeck, Germany, which I am told is in Lower Saxony.

4. Rate beer says it’s a dunkel bock, which is good enough for me, especially as that means I tick one more style.
5.

It is lighter, both in color and mouthful than I expected for the style name. It is definitely a sweet, malty beer, with more going on in the taste than the aroma.

#5. Weihenstephaner Korbinian Beer advocate describes it tasting like, “fruity hints of plums and figs, a dark malt aroma – reminiscent of toffee, nuts and chocolate.” It tasted more like malted caramel to me.

2. Place beer purchased: K-1 Beer and Wine

#7. Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier – It’s like a cross between a wheat beer and a soda. Very carbonated and with a weak taste. Not citrusy like American wheat beers and not banana flavored like the Ayi
1. Date beer purchased.: 1/16/17
2. Place beer purchased: K-1 Beer and Wine
3. Name and location of brewery – Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan, Freising, Germany

#2. Erdinger Weisbier Kristal.

Purchased 1.20.2017. The day Chancellor Merkel becomes the leader of the free world.
Purchased at German Gourmet, on Columbia Pike. BTW making a vehicular left on Columbia Pike is no fun at all.
I think the German name is Erdinger WeissBrau.
In Erding. Bavaria. Which I guess is more bike able than Columbia Pike?
It’s a kristalweizen, for yet another style tick (64 out if 77 on ratebeer)
The clear metallic yellow color is quite something. The aroma and flavor had something flowery and like apples aside from the wheat (and a little banana in the flavor, but not the aroma). The mouthfeel was very light.

#8 Weihenstephaner Vitus – According to Wikipedia “Vitus is considered the patron saint of actors, comedians, dancers, and folk art administration, similarly to Genesius of Rome. He is also said to protect against lightning strikes, animal attacks and oversleeping.” As a beer, Vitus is more wheat beer than bock. It had a very light and foamy head. Pleasant aroma with a good banana taste. Would drink again.

#9 Weihenstephaner Original Premium – I’m guessing that this is the most generic, tasteless, water downed beer in Germany. Like Bud Light, but worse.

2. Place beer purchased: K-1 Wine and Beer
