Hah! I think you have me totally beat these days, good sir. I’m pretty sure I remember what my mountain bike looks like, but actually operating it is a different matter altogether. :p

I can shop at the military commissary in Wiesbaden, so I decided to try a couple different routes (one going, one returning). Going I ended up with one big climb out of Hofheim, much of it on a gravel/dirt (mud) forest road that had stretches of ice.

For the trip back I was looking for a more level route since If I’ve been shopping I may be loaded down. There is a mix of cycle paths and farm roads that parallel the A66 Autobahn that served the purpose. Unfortunately in the dark I missed a turn near Hattersheim and ended up on a very muddy farm track for about a mile and a half. Without the wrong turns the total distance is about 48 miles round trip.

I headed into the lower Taunus for today’s ride and encountered several stretches of ice covered trails. The photos are between Saalburg and heading down from Altkönig. One (4th photo) was particularly bad as I was coming up a slope and had to make a left turn, all on ice plus there was a runner heading downhill taking the less frozen edge.

Hit the Frederick Watershed both days this weekend. Nobody came to my ride yesterday but today was a lot of fun!

I usually pass by this place at the beginning of a ride, too early to stop for a coffee. I’ll have arrange one of my rides that I’m coming back in.
