Totally agree. I’ve even started doing laps around HP for my run training. The heated, 24/7 bathrooms make it even better. :)

Pro tip: HP bathrooms have hand dryers for emergency hand warming and glove drying.

I’ll bring back the Operation Deep Freeze prize this year AND I’m really hoping to make it to the happy hour to award it this time assuming the moving bits on my bike don’t blow up on the way.

Anyway, ODF will be 1 or 2 prizes for the coldest ride and the longest ride on the coldest day type of thing.

I am in contention after today’s ride in Upper Michigan: 5 Degrees. Colder with the brisk windchill, but standing temp was 5. Watch out, it is supposed to be Even Colder tomorrow!

    HP Laps get you somewhere.

HP Laps get you as close to Enlightenment as possible without moving into a Buddhist Monastery.

If by “Enlightenment” you mean that very particular feeling of “WHY???? WHY AM I STILL HERE???? WHAT’S THE POINT? OMG, I’ve started counting manholes out of boredom. IHTFP! Get Me Out Of Here!” then yes, I’m in agreement.

Release your attachment to the manhole and contemplate:

What is the sound of one man lapping?

So, Kitty’s commute yesterday inspired a new FS Pointless Prize: The prize for the one that can claim… the best sock game!

I’m gunna need more socks! Seriously though, I’m honored. Standing by for details! ^^

I suspect there will be quite a number of people with a ratio of 0. My first year in FS I never rode at Hains Point at all. In fact, the first time I ever rode there was at the FSLNHPP two years ago.

Steve brings up a good point. To avoid having a bunch of people with a ratio of 0, the equation would be total BAFS mileage / (Hains Point mileage + 1). That means at the very least, the individual who rides the most miles among those who ride zero HP miles will win the prize. I don’t expect any teams will be in the zero HP miles category.

This sounds like the cruelest Pointless Prize of all time. Why would you want to discourage someone from the life altering pleasure that is riding a Hains Point lap?

Well, it would be an awfully long ride for me to include an HP lap this Freezing addles cycle. :p

I have ridden Hains Point laps only at the FSLNHPP. Otherwise, I tend to think of my bike as transportation. Riding around in circles doesn’t get me anywhere, so I don’t do it.

I agree about Hains Point laps, but the Arlington Loop can get you places while riding in a big circle. If technically feasible, I propose a pointless prize for completing the most Arlington Loops (for the uninitiated: W&OD Trail from the Custis intersection to its eastern terminus, 4-Mile Run Trail [including the detour] from Shirlington Rd. to its eastern terminus, the MVT from DCA to its northern terminus at Roosevelt Island, and the whole Custis trail) in either direction. Would love it if the loop could be counted if not completed as a single ride, i.e., half in the morning commute, half in the evening commute.

Prize would be, of course, a box of Fruit Loops.

Life altering boredom maybe. ;) There is no point, hence the idea of making it a pointless prize. Whether you don’t ride HP because your sole purpose of riding a bike is to get someplace or you just think it’s boring to ride around a flat oval, this “reindeer game” is for you.

We need an Elite Dislike button I say!

On a serious note, thinking about how the math would work, you’d really have to require the winner to ride 1 Hains Point lap. Otherwise the winner of the prize would be the person who rode the most miles but rode zero Hains Point laps.

A really good pointless prize would be to offer me some fabulous award to not ride another Hains Point lap this, like $1,000. It would of course be a pointless prize, because it’s pointless to think that I’d be able to resist a lap.

My last ride in the UP today: Negative 7 Degrees! YUP, -7. I only lasted 1.1 miles. I gave the bike shop owner a 6 pack of Fat Tire Beer in gratitude for the use of a Minnesota Fatty this week. Kate O

The leaderboard only gives you credit for 8.1 degrees, but that was from yesterday. Maybe it will catch up.
In any case, you are in first place.
