Does this recruitment drive mean you’re offering CX clinics?

I am quite sure I am the last person you want giving a CX clinic! I get comments quite often about my remounts, and they are never positive!

I can however, give a heckling clinic! :p

Schoolwork has crushed my weekends and, by extension, my CX season. I have spent too much time indoors this fall and nothing short of a catastrophic injury will keep me from this race!

Side note: I’ll celebrate the end of the semester doing Rustbucket Races in Norfolk at a disused municipal facility on Saturday the 16th if anyone else is interested: https://www.bikereg.com/rustbucketraces

Just a reminder that the biggest cyclocross party of the season is happening THIS SUNDAY!

I know the weather is looking a little chilly, but we will have fire pits, indoor (heated) registration, indoor (heated) bathrooms, free beer, and tons of fun!

Sign up and race or just come out and spectate. Either way, you will have a blast!

Pre-registration closes on Thursday, so hurry up and get signed up!

I have music practice in Nokesville at 2 PM. Since the event is almost along the way I hope to stop by for a bit and spectate.

Hey the BikenetiCX race sounds like fun!!

Clinic? Okay, here is the short version. In the center of the course is a pirate ship. The pirate ship is a beer garden and the beer is free. You go up to the guy with the keg (make a generous donation to MORE) and drink lots of beer.

Then you go to Pie Guy and buy a pie.

Then you go to Java Cruiser and order like three grill cheeze sandwiches.

Some other idiots will be falling off their bikes but you can pretty much ignore them.

Last day to pre-register for the best bike party of the year!

There are some names lacking on the registration list… *cough*Birru*Judd*Reji*cough*

Come hang out, race your bike, and drink some FREE beer on a pirate ship!

I’ll make sure reji sees this, but I have the feeling she’s not planning on racing.

Yes, please ignore them. Best to make sure you don’t arrive before 8:45 am.

Couple photos from yesterday. Most I took from the top of a really muddy steep hill by the Pirate ship since it offered a great view. It was a really fun day–thanks Sunyata and everyone else on team Bikenetic for hosting a great event!

A group climbing the muddy hill. A number of times people got to the top, slipped, and took out multiple other racers on their way down which was pretty funny to watch. A few racers helped each other up though which was nice.

Reading this made me think that I’ve yet to meet someone who has either raced or spectated a Cross event who didn’t enjoy it (unless they got injured or broke their bike). Last year was my first season in cross and I ended my season in Norfolk. My mom, dad (in their 70s), and sister were able to watch. It was cloudy, windy, and damn cold but they stood in the central part of the course with the best view and had a blast! They have since purchased a megaphone and a cowbell…my sis is planning out her hand-ups for this weekend’s Rustbucket Races.

This is a long way of saying that Sunday’s BCX was a perfect example of what makes Cross such a great sport: it’s accessible, it’s fun, and at my meager level the participants don’t take themselves too seriously. I could go on and on….

Agreed! It was totally fun. And hard. This was my first ever bike race of any kind, and I blame Sunyata for that.

For those of you unfamiliar, this is the recommended way to make yourself around a cross course:

Actually riding on top of the bike is saved for the rare flat spots.

Since Bikenetic makes the most of the pirate ship, I rode in my pirate costume, which you can see better in this photo (note: still not actually on the bike):

You can also see Mr. Happy helping me up by pulling on the course tape.

Sunyata loaned me her bike, for which I owe her big time at an upcoming happy hour. Thanks, Casey!!
And a repeat super-duper kudos to Bikenetic for putting this whole thing together.

Don’t forget, Crystal City Wednesday Night Spins are just around the corner!;)
