No!!!! Judd, I think you should ride the Brompton. I promise I’ve barely broken in that plank they call a saddle :P You up for it?

If you’re serious about lending it, I might be serious about riding a century on it.

I’ll probably do this and if so could take one person and bike with me. Possibly 2 people and 2 bikes with some creative car loading (have a two bike rack, so one bike would have to go in the car, but I’m reasonably sure it would work).

I had been on the fence about signing up due to the hilliness of the course, but it looks like I’ve been peer-pressured into registering. Count me in for the WAAS peloton.

I’m happy to drive myself (although I can’t take any passengers) if that means Steve O can catch a ride with Judd and do the full century.

This plan, however, has my full support.

It occured to me with much chagrin earlier this week that with all of my traveling this summer, I forgot to make arrangements for this!

I was going to take care of it mid week, but then the theft of my bike threw everything into limbo. Now that it sounds like I’ll have a bike in time, I can think about this again.

Last year when I did Tour de Fredrick I drove up the night before, dragged my husband along and got a hotel. He then bummed around town when I rode and then took us home since I was “bike drunk” and not good to drive. It occurs to me now that there’s not much for him to do in Indian Head so this method might not work so well.

How are you guys getting there? Are you staying the night or driving in in the morning?

It’s not staying-the-night distance; only 20 miles south of the wilson bridge. I work in indian head, I commute there from alexandria daily. Sometimes by bike. Unlike Rod Smith, however, I will not be commuting to and from the century by bike, with or without a trailer to haul SteveO.

There is *nothing* to do in Indian Head. (Except ride on the trail, or work at the navy base.)

There is, astonishingly to me, a Super 8 motel, so you *can* stay the night if you really want to, though.

Seriously, we need a bike caravan to the ride, and you’d be the perfect leader!

That’s good info, and confirms my suspicions that leaving my spouse at a Super 8 all day is not the best idea…

By any chance does anyone driving from Arlington/Alexandria have room for one more passenger and bike?

If it helps we have a Saris car rack that can take two bikes that I can offer up. I’m not confident in driving, between getting lost and missing the start, and not being good to drive after.

OR…. I’ve just been informed that our car that has been in the shop since last Monday may still be there for another week, as the part isn’t expected for a while. :(

So if there is an option for me to join a carpool down, I will pay in gas money an/or homemade energy bars.

Perhaps we should all meet at a pre-determined location the morning of to consolidate bikes and riders.
So far this thread shows Judd, komo, Amalitza and AF offering to drive people and/or bikes. Kitty and I are requesting rides. LSG is signed up. Others?
I have a rack I can bring that holds 2 comfortably and 3 if necessary (I recently figured out how to transport my bike rack on my bike rack, so I can get it to the rendezvous).

    Ha. Ha. Ha.

    No.

Unless you are suggesting that *I* ride on Rod’s trailer and give directions charioteer style. :)

Perhaps we both could. You navigate while I lash Rod to go faster.

Hi all. Newbie here . I’ll be driving there and doing the 24 (or is it 26 mi) course so i can see what all the excitement is about. Im from down that way but have never biked there. Looking forward to it. I have one car + one bike. Happy to have someone attach a (i.e.your) bike rack to my old Honda Civic if you want and take another person and bike. Just tell me where to rendezvous.

I have to back out. Unfortunately, I’ll be out of town this weekend.
