Aren’t CX races supposed to have mud? You’re there!

Wow! I completely understand the reasoning, but that is a bummer. I know a bunch of people were looking forward to that…

If anyone’s up for it, going to Hains Point after work to knock out a century since my plans this weekend got washed up. 5:30pm to midnightish.

An email came out Friday morning stating the determination will be made today. Full text below. I also wonder about the Pyscho CX race on Saturday.

I’m sure everyone is wondering what’s going to happen with the race this Sunday. This is just to advise all concerned that we are closely monitoring both the current weather conditions and the forecast as well as the course conditions. We will be doing a course walk-through with the City of Hyattsville tomorrow morning to make a final assessment. You can expect a go/no-go decision tomorrow afternoon.

Rest assured that if Sunday is a no-go, the race will be rescheduled to a later date.

Thanks for your patience as we work to determine the best course of action under very indeterminate circumstances.

BTW, the rain today, tonight, and Saturday morning has nothing to do with any hurricane. NOAA statement on that below. This is a bad thing, the area is getting pre-soaked by this cold front and then MIGHT get a second soaking from the hurricane or remnants of the hurricane.

    TODAY AND TONIGHT

HEAVY RAINFALL IS LIKELY TODAY INTO TONIGHT. THIS RAINFALL IS NOT
    ASSOCIATED WITH HURRICANE JOAQUIN.

The Sportif Series Pycho CX organization stated as of now, that race is on.

So it’s only about the rain?

So I really can say: “In my day, we rode the Seagull Century in 5 inches of rain! Kids today are spoiled wimps!”

I’m gonna love being an old man.

I think cancellation was the right call, but based on the tone of the notice posted on the SGC page, I think the local emergency management may have ‘encouraged’ the cancellation.

I can’t say I blame them given the potential for power outages, down tree limbs, car accidents, etc.

Yes, and the need to divert personnel to the ride who might be needed to deal with things like that elsewhere.
