I have not seen anything about a questionnaire (though I recall some mention of that at BPAC) or responses.

Personally my priority is defeating Ms Silberberg, who seems to be aligned with the elements in the City (like the OTCA) which are most hostile to biking, as well as being generally hostile the kinds of urbanist changes I believe the City needs.

My understanding is that Jonathan Krall supports Mr Donley, primarily because the City under Mayor Euille backed off the Royal Street Bike Boulevard, under NIMBY pressure. Personally I am less concerned about Royal Street – while I think it was a good project, there are many higher priority items across the City – and yes, some deference to NIMBYs is probably inevitable – that the City went ahead with the King Street lanes, is advancing lanes elsewhere (even looking at cycle tracks) is moving ahead with the Bike Ped Master Plan, restored CaBi funding, etc is impressive to me. As is the broader commitment to an urbanist vision for the City. I also fear splitting the pro-urbanist vote, and I believe Mayor Euille serves to unite a diverse city. So at this point, unless I hear something VERY compelling as a reason to vote for Donley, i intend to vote for Euille.

Bumping this thread to ask Alexandrians to please vote! It appears to be a competitive race, so your vote really could help determine whether Alexandria has a mayor who advocates for bicycling or not.

Is she going to cut back on Capital Bikeshare expansion and bike infrastructure? I hope not.

One hopes the Council will not be impressed by a Mayor who only got 38% of the vote. She has strongly allied with Old Town NIMBYs on development issues, and it is hard to see her breaking with them on other issues.

The Mayor has the same vote as the other 6 Council members, the same $ to hire one part time aide, plus the gavel. The Mayor doesn’t have the authority to do much of anything without the support of the rest of Council. City staff report to the Council-appointed career City Manager.

Unless Council changes (i.e. enough Republicans get elected), I think Silberberg may be unusually weak, as she may be seen, despite being Mayor, as a voice of dissent. At least Euille is generally seen as speaking for Council, as the majority share his views.

Oh, and it was City staff (the City Manager) who proposed adding no new CaBi stations this coming fiscal year. It was City Council (on which Silberberg now sits) who restored funding for adding more CaBi stations.
