I swung through Crystal City as they were walking their undistributed fruit back to the office and Joe was gracious enough to give me a banana for the road. As I wear tee shirts for the commute I elected to use the handy leg pocket feature of lycra shorts.
Is that a banana in your pocket, or are you…oh, never mind.

ParticipantTo paraphrase Sigmund Freud, sometimes a banana is just a banana.

ParticipantThe nice folks at Local Motion gave me a free t-shirt, even though I registered late. Thanks, Local Motion! But I couldn’t take advantage of the free coffee at the Carlyle stop, because I was running late and I haven’t (yet) mastered the hipster trick of riding with one hand on the handlebars and the other hand holding a coffee cup. Maybe someday.

Really? I took my usual route and it was noticeable how fewer cars there were! I’d love to think it was all in honor of Car Free Day, but by God if the Pope can’t preform miracles pre-arrival!
In both the morning and evening regular chokepoints like Washington Circle were much smoother than usual. Going home the traffic along the Roosevelt Bridge around 6:30 looked more like it does around 8:30! (Yes I’ve been working late of late…)

In the far northwest hinterlands of Arlington and the Fairfax frontier, it was slightly worse than usual. This morning was pretty normal, except on the section of my route primarily populated with commuters going into the city (rather than ArlCo<>Fairfax), which was relatively quiet.
