My goal for next year is to figure out a fun, safe way to bike with my new son in our daily routine.

Countdown until Dasgeh makes Kidical Mass comment 5…4…3…

My wife was joking last night that if I promise to take the kids to and from camp every day for six weeks this summer, then I can get both the kid-carrying cargo bike I want AND a fixed gear that I also want. I’m pretty sure she was joking. Maybe I should go find out if she was joking…

Corollary: Buy the cargo bike and fixed gear first, and then you just have to transport the kids every day for six weeks? Seems like a good deal.

It does seem like a good deal, except that it would mean arriving at work late and leaving early every day for 6 weeks. My team lead has young kids and is understanding, but perhaps not THAT understanding. Camp is a bit of a hike in the opposite direction of work.

I got in somewhere between 4,800-5,000 this year. I’m thinking right around that amount for this coming year. Those are all commuting miles. If I start knocking out centuries again then it might go north of 6,000 pretty quickly.

Ok if I write it down hopefully I’ll have a better chance of achieving it – 3500 miles. I had never biked much more than a few miles at a time until I went on a two-day, 90 mile C&O canal – WOD loop with some friends this summer. It was so much fun that I decided to look into biking to work a few times a week. I just started bike commuting in June and quickly became addicted. It is a 16 mile commute each way, so time constraints and fitness level prevented me from doing it more than 1-2 times per week. Still, I logged a little over 1000 miles since I started bike commuting. 3500 miles would mean averaging more than two bike commutes per week in 2014, which is going to be challenging but I’m excited to try it out!

    1. No accidents, obviously.

    2. Bike commute to work 90% of the days I go to work.

    3. 6,000 total miles

    4. Twice as many centuries (4) as I did last year (2).

    5. Enter a Grand Fondo.

    6. Get bikes for my 11 year-olds because they are tired of riding my bikes with the seats mashed down.

I’m going with 3000 miles and ride my first century.

Only made it to 2,800 of my 3k goal last year so 3k again plus completing a century.

I don’t have a goal regarding miles. Main focus will be becoming a true bike commuter. Started a new job in April and have biking to work as a real option for the first time ever. I rode a bunch when I started but got injured, had a bike stolen, etc. Got a new bike, signed-up for Freezing Saddles (let’s go team 9) and am generally motivated by what I have been reading on this site on an almost daily basis. Thanks everyone.

I would like to ride my first century. Take a bike packing trip on my new bike. Ride all of a mountain bike race series – Michaux? And finally, if time permits, try my hand at an off road tri.

But if you get fired, you’ll have more time to ride the bikes!

I haven’t even thought about goals mainly because I never keep good track of them year-round. So maybe I’ll make my goal to burn through two sets of tires by year end.

become addicted to the grip and ride you get from Michelin pro 4s and your goal will be easy.

Hmmm … 2014 goals. For some reason I’m a bit stymied on this one but here is what I’ve come up with so far:

    Mileage: 6000. I like 500 mile months.
On Bike Goals: Enter a cross race, ride more gravel, and complete at least two centuries.
Off Bike Goals: Get back to paddling by taking one kayak camping trip and maybe throwing in a race or two.

    Time for a mid-year assessment.

Mileage — On track despite a hamstring set back in January. With this morning’s ride I hit 3000 miles.

On bike goals — Haven’t done a cross race yet but did just spend an hour Googling to see if the 2014-2015 season schedules had been posted yet. I’ve definitely ridden more gravel thanks to Pete, Bikenetic, the Nova Epic and the little jaunt that Liz and I took last weekend. Centuries … haven’t done any of those yet this year. Time to get planning!

Off bike goals — starting to think those might not be necessary although I did go canoe camping so that should count.

    Are you on track?

I’d love to get back to 3,500 miles for the year this year

I’m at 1821 according to my Garmin, 1806 according to Strava as of this morning’s commute, so on pace to hit my 3500, especially if my other big goal is met…

My other goal is to get out for another one or two night overnight bike trip, probably on the C&O again, just b/c it’s so accessible and so cheap … If I don’t get out on the C&O for an overnight, I’d love to do at least a couple metric centuries.

The (solo) overnight may still happen later this summer, as well as a potential camping trip to Pohick Bay where I ride with cyclingfool, jr. in the Burley from home to campground and meet my wife and her car (filled with camping gear) there. Plus, I got in a metric century-plus on my birthday with a 77 mile round trip ride to Leesburg.

All in all, I’m right on track to meet my (admittedly not so lofty) goals. :D

I can’t find my post, but I believe my goal was to ride less than last year but to make it count. Right on track!
