Given that I rode 3200 miles in 2012 and will finish with 4300 miles in 2013, it would follow that my expectation for 2014 should be 5400 miles. That said, I will aim for 4500 miles, but 5000 miles would be a special goal for me for mileage.

What if the progression is multiplicative rather than additive? The ratio between your 2012 miles and 2013 miles is 1.34, so that would suggest 5778 miles in 2014. Just say’n.

    You’re on a real math kick lately…

Just came up short of 5k this year, so my goal is 5k for next year.

I won’t be repeating the TdF trip this year, but I’m shooting for more climbing, though getting out to the mountains will be just as difficult next year as it was this year. I planned to ride Weather mountain at least 6-7 times, only made it once.

Two big goals: I do plan on riding Skyline drive over two days, southbound on a Saturday, and Northbound the next Sunday. And actually riding my bike and not walking up Coxey Brown Rd.

While reading this comment, simultaneously my mouth cracked a smile and my legs groaned. I’ll make 5778 a super special goal ;)

One variation of the Skyline trip I’ve done a couple of times is to start in the middle at Big Meadows. Go to one end or the other on Saturday, and then go to the other end and back on Sunday. You can either camp on Saturday night or wimp out like I did and take a “rustic” cabin. Because there’s not much on the south end where Skyline meets the Blue Ridge Parkway except for the defunct Howard Johnsons, you might need to ride down into Waynesboro. That makes the south “half” about 112 miles. I usually do that one on Saturday, and do the north half on Sunday.

Oh, and Coxey Brown puts the “F” in the OMGWTF ride, eh?

I finished the year with 5069 miles, 168 days of commuting by bike (missed 1 day), and 257 days riding (I am a slacker on the weekends).

My pickup got 1172 miles during the same period. Maybe this bike thing isn’t a passing fancy.

Most of my riding was commuting, save the Climate Ride from NYC to DC (for the greater glory of WABA) and some longer rides working up to that.

Scored a new bike in the spring for the Climate Ride that now has 3700 miles on it.

For 2014, will probably be about the same. Might try to do a century (my first).

I signed up for a few rides/races I have no business doing, so I have to push myself to make the cut off times. So consistency has to be my big goal, and elevation. Elevation is my way to keep myself honest for either I make it up the hill or I don’t, no way around it. I’m slow, but if I’m going slow up a hill I still feel like I’m working. So my goal will be 7000 with 400k.

Oh, I realized those were based on estimates. My actual results were 3229.7 miles in 2012 and 4417.8 miles in 2013, making the ratio between them ~1.37. That would mean my special goal would be 5605.9 miles and my super special goal would be 6043.0 miles. I can feel the pain in my legs already…

    …thanks a lot, dbb! :p

After a lot of miles in 2013 (nearly half of which were in the first 3 months of the year, thanks Freezing Saddles), my goal for 2014 isn’t mileage-related.

My goal for next year is to figure out a fun, safe way to bike with my new son in our daily routine. And, once we’ve figured it out, to ride every day, including some weekend outings. The whole “kid on bike” thing is a little intimidating to me – so many options and new things – but all this walking everywhere is kinda making me crazy with its slowness.

My second goal is to get on a bike nearly every day. Even if it’s just a short CaBi hop.

    Happy new year!

As with 2013, I won’t have any goals milewise – I’m just hoping to have a healthy, happy year on the bike. 2013 had some great moments but I’ve also had a lot of involuntary downtime.

I finished with just over 4800 miles, so I think this year’s goal will be 5000 miles. And maybe ride a century for the first time this century.

Hmmm … 2014 goals. For some reason I’m a bit stymied on this one but here is what I’ve come up with so far:

    Mileage: 6000. I like 500 mile months.
On Bike Goals: Enter a cross race, ride more gravel, and complete at least two centuries.
Off Bike Goals: Get back to paddling by taking one kayak camping trip and maybe throwing in a race or two.
