I am looking to do more to justify my title as MORE Fort DuPont Coordinator. Four rides and one work session last year were not enough. The plan is two rides per month and and three work sessions.

My base goal is always 3500 miles with 4,000 as an extra bonus but with a new dog and a new(old) house, I don’t see this as a break-out year for mega miles. I’m hoping to stay(get) in shape for several 200K brevets again, but probably not much else. After doing the 300K this past May I was hoping to parlay that into a 400K this year, but that’s very not likely to happen considering I would have trouble with 100K right now. With all the walking we do with the dog, I’m thinking about making her into a potential 1-3 mile running buddy.

My big hope is that our offices get moved from SE to NW this year, which would make commuting 5x/week a real possibility!

since i plan on riding across Iowa and that is something around 400 miles I plan on 2,500 miles riding and 1,000 miles running. We shall see how this goes.

I’d love to get back to 3,500 miles for the year this year, a mark I have hit in the past, but at a time when I wasn’t in grad school or parenting a 1 year old, which made getting out for a few hours on weekends or even to do an overnight bike camping trip more feasible. It’s not too much of a stretch… I generally get a little over 3,000 with minimal recreational riding since I am a daily year round commuter, but the extra 500 miles are easier said than done given family, work, and school commitments.

My other goal is to get out for another one or two night overnight bike trip, probably on the C&O again, just b/c it’s so accessible and so cheap (free camping and all). If I don’t get out on the C&O for an overnight, I’d love to do at least a couple metric centuries.

Since I should be completing my masters program next fall, my goals for 2015 will likely be loftier and might include an even longer, non-C&O bike trip as a graduation present to myself. :)

I’d like more of my miles to be cute and fluffy too. Not sure how to do that, but goals are important to me. :D

Since 2014 will be my first opportunity to be a cyclist for an entire calendar year, my minimum goal will be to keep my current level of activity through the new year, so that would put me at 3500 mi for a nice round figure (3600 based on Nov and Dec alone). If I can push that to 4000, I’ll be really pleased, but I will also need to write my dissertation sometime in there, and I will only be able to justify extra riding after the doctorate is done.

Tape recorder strapped to your helmet + voice-to-text software = write your dissertation while riding. You’re welcome.

Yeah…maybe this isn’t quite what you’re looking for.

    Wait a minute–what’s a tape recorder?

Sorry, sorry, dictate straight to your personal digital assistant of choice on your phone (though I recommend you steer clear of Apple, Siri tends to editorialize).

Yeah, but I recently discovered that Siri knows swear words and that may come in handy. Especially when you hit something.

I just found out from my brother-in-law that Siri says “Brr” when you ask her the temperature and it’s below freezing. Someone needs to a) teach Siri Rule #5 and b) tell her there’s no bad weather, only bad clothes.

No mileage goal. I want to ride consistently but without burning out (mentally or physically). My guess is close to this year’s 4900, maybe a bit less through the winter (sorry freezing saddles teammates) to have more time and energy to get myself back into somewhat consistent strength training. But whatever it turns out to be it will be.

    Goals:

Ride through the winter. (yes again, but hate the cold, so need the goal)

Get better at hills. Up them and down them. (got some better this year, want to get more better next year)

Find some cross bike type terrain to ride the new cross bike on.

Get enough faster and stronger to (continue to?) hold my own riding with the significant other. This one is doomed to certain failure,** but why let that stop me from declaring that I’m going to do it?

Maybe some group rides or a century or something else new.

**unless his knee surgery is successful enough to get him back on the basketball court as his main sport (relegating the bike to a hobby he occasionally dabbles in to hang out with me). Otherwise, I’m toast. I might be toast anyway. I started out as a somewhat better cyclist than he is, but he’s a much better athlete than I am, and his riding improves waayyy faster than I can get stronger. He already rides me into the ground on his good days, and up hills, and into the wind, soon enough it will be on all days.
