ParticipantRode from Falls Church to Vienna, and it’s quite slushy, but not slick (if you’re careful). I’ll have to go back that way in about an hour. I passed a Falls Church City police cruiser parked on the trail just before Shreve…don’t know what that’s about.

ParticipantThanks dkel. I’ll be anxiously waiting for a report. Be careful out there.

ParticipantSwift currents, muddy water with a sheen of gasoline, thigh deep under the railroad bridge on the Northeast Branch Trail. Don’t ask me how I know.

The W&OD on the way back to Falls Church from Vienna is improving, though there are still long stretches of slush. There’s a lot of water running and pooling everywhere, too. A lot. Still, riding in it isn’t bad, and I had no trouble contacting pavement.
That said, I didn’t get to ride the whole way, though, because I got a flat before I reached Gallows. Seeing as how it was the first flat I’ve ever gotten in the six months and over 2000 miles since I started doing this cycling thing, and having had enough Rule 9 for one day, I bailed out and got a ride home, despite having all the tools I needed to change the thing. Special thanks to Rocford10 for driving over to get me.

The construction site for the new rail bridge seems to exacerbate the usual flooding in that section. Hopefully the water will be down by tomorrow morning’s commute.
If you google “maryland river levels” you’ll go to the USGS site: The river trail of which Rod speaks/sinks/swims has a gage here: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/md/nwis/uv?site_no=01649500
Whenever the level gets over 4 feet, and especially when it’s near 5 feet, flooding is possible. The detour is Decatur Street to Alt Route 1 to Armentrout Road to pick up the NW Branch trail past the construction site/low spot.

Oh, darn! Sorry to hear. Thanks for the report. Fingers crossed for tomorrow morning. And by the way, no one on this thread say one more thing about this being the last snow and we won’t jinx ourselves!! It could or couldn’t be the last snow.

ParticipantMost of us would have been very happy to have someone come and get us. Sorry about your flat, especially on a day like this!

ParticipantFWIW, I’ve had just one flat in the three years and 6722 miles since I started using a bike computer. I don’t think that getting a ride when you have a flat is going to impair your training in any noticeable way!

ParticipantOh yeah, that is deep water. For the record, I did not make it through yesterday, I turned around before I got in over my waist. The pumping operation going on there exacerbates the flooding.

ParticipantIn case you hadn’t seen yet, Ohio Drive is now closed to cars (not sure how long this will go on due to Cherry Blossoms, but my guess is a few weeks?). Anyways, I rode around the cones right in front of a motorcycle cop and he had no problem with me doing so. I’m posting more as an FYI that you might want to have an alternate route in mind in the event that you run across an officer that doesn’t see things the same way. In the past it seems like 99% of people can get thru without a problem, but just in case…
Everything else on my ride was clear and dry today for the most part.

ParticipantIt was a little windy last night and there is some debris on the Bluemont Junction trail.
