From WOD to Rosslyn – 99.8% clear. Only 1 5-foot long patch that crosses the whole trail. Everywhere else either entirely clear (almost everywhere) or a pretty wide clear line to ride on. Just be relatively alert at the Lee Hwy bridge and behind the soundwall above Scott St. Shouldn’t be a problem if you ride with your eyes open.

This is Steve O, signing off (hopefully) until December.

Elite. And I say that as someone who’s generally a fan of winter. This year it’s a little different though.

Let’s not give up on this thread yet! This morning’s jaunt on the Georgetown Branch Trail was still daunting–snow, ice, mud, and ruts. On the way home, I decided to ride on Jones Bridge Road instead–lots more hills, but worth it to avoid the bad trail conditions.

Dang, yeah, saw that on Twitter earlier. It’s funny, I usually would gauge the last snow melt in the DC area by the ice between gallows and cedar on the WOD. (Which is melted)

From earlier melts, I think the Georgetown Branch meltoff has to be the new barometer of spring.

I didn’t see many people out there, so I thought I would file a trail report. Hopped on at East Falls Church, and it was damp. Got to Brandymore castle, and it was wet. Cutoff to the Custis was moist. Lee Highway overpass was soaked. The Two Sisters were damp. And the descent into Rosslyn was water-logged.

I rode on the beach yesterday. A lot like riding in snow. Except 1,000,000,000,000,000 times more pleasant. :-)

I rode the Georgetown Branch Trail again today. The good news: The snow and ice is finally gone. The bad news: It is still possible to slip sideways while riding, due to the quantities of mud there.

    There’s some flooding out there:

Not surprisingly, the Holmes Run Trail tunnels are flooded travelling eastbound. Flooding starting halfway through the Van Dorn tunnel. When that ends, it opens up into a full on rapid – completely non-passable under 395. I went down to take a look, then bypassed them with the Sanger/Richenbacher to Paxton detour to hook back up with the trail once past the tunnels.

Wilson Blvd underpass on the W&OD is flooded, but passable. Water almost to the cranks. If it keeps raining overnight, it’ll likely be unpassable.

MVT from Old Town to 4MRT was fine. 4MRT to W&OD was fine. Other than the Wilson Blvd underpass, W&OD to Falls Church was fine.

Ummmm so it’s snowing a lot in Vienna. Just drove past the trail and it is quite slushy. Hopefully, it will rain later on and melt some of the snow in time for tomorrow’s commute. Why is this thread still needed in April just about?
