Sorry guy! Hey what bike do you have? Will be on the lookout for you out there.
Cannondale Quick, black with white lettering. I have a BikeArlington tag and a Washington Area Bike Forum tag on my pannier, though they’re most visible from the side (so you’ll have to catch me to see them!).

ParticipantI’ll consider that a challenge!

. . .but I had to stop when I hit the Lee Hwy overpass before the spiral o’ doom – there were a couple others walking their bikes and it was probably good since I didn’t realize just how icy that bridge was until I had to stop. Without studs in the back there was no way to get going again and even walking was treacherous.
I must be a badass, because I rode across both of those bridges on my 28s. Slowly, but I made it.

ParticipantSorry, but a true badass does not resort to self-appellation.
(And more seriously, I wasn’t going to try to roll by while others were walking.)

ParticipantI can’t speak for park st to gallows but everything was great but great falls/little falls section on the WOD from gallows to Shirlington. However, heading west on the rte 7 bridge is clear but going east it is not.

ParticipantI rode the W&OD from Citizens Bridge to Vienna (Tapawingo Road exit ramp). Most of the trail was fine, but icy in the usual shady spots. There were only a couple of stretches without a clear path, but you could walk those easily if you didn’t want to ride. I rode through okay on MTB tires.

ParticipantYeah, I put the 28c tires back on for tomorrow. There are a couple of sections between Arlington & Vienna where one will have to slow down, possibly even briefly dismount, but the trail is mostly fine. Gallows to Park street was really the only place where there was any significant stretch of non-clear trail (and even that was probably no more than a couple/few 25-foot sections).
From Vienna to Reston was clear.
Was nice to have the tailwind to help overcome the drag of the studded tires on the commute home.

ParticipantHi there, did anyone take Custis trail today? What shape is it in? Is it still January?

I rode from the W&OD junction to the Ballston connector. It was a little dicey at the Harrison underpass and in front of St. Ann School, but no dismount was required since there are paths through the icy spots. Otherwise, it was nice and dry.

Well, no one else was going to do it for me.

That’s the proper name for the wooden bridge in falls church.

Amen. Today was beautiful.
Oh, and here’s hoping there’s no need for there to be an “April 2014 Trail Conditions” thread.

Maybe we should make one and pre-emptively post nice weather comments in there, and then have an admin close the thread.
