Too bad they seem to be figuring out how to keep the bike lanes and trails clear just as spring is starting. I imagine they’ll have forgotten again by next winter.
I was soooo thinking the same thing! :p

Maybe! Was that you I spoke to about how long the signal at Gallows takes to change?
Yes! I didn’t say anything because yelling out your forum name seemed stalky.

Wow. The W&OD is clear from Lee Hwy all the way to Hunter Mill Rd. Even the bridges have a wide track, with the exception of Citizens’ Bridge, which has a very narrow track, but it’s also mostly slush. It was a fun ride.

ParticipantThe only problem riding from Rosslyn to the Custis/W&OD junction the long way around was the Trollheim wooden walkway at TR. There was a slushy single track all the way through, but if it freezes overnight (may not happen) be careful. The only other real snow I saw on any of the trails was a drift on the eastern end of the Humpback bridge blocking half of the trail for about 20 yards. Any report on the Custis snow dumps behind Lyon Village?

Has anyone been on the Georgetown Branch Trail? Since it never gets plowed, and isn’t paved, it tends to be the last thing to clear. I’m trying to figure out whether it will be passable for a Thursday breakfast run.
Please let WABA know too because that is part of the Full Vasa ride route on Saturday. I expect there will at least be mud issues for the next several days with rain in the forecast.

I’m going to ride it Tomorrow and Friday in advance of Vasa. I’ll see what info I can get for y’all on clearing it too.

It was about 90% clear of snow/slush from Bethesda to Stewart Ave. The trestle bridge still had snow on it, but there was a clear path. That was the good news, the bad news is that there was lots of standing water and the ground was still thawing out. I’ll give an update in the morning and tomorrow night. But my best guess is mud, mud and more mud.

Still blocking half of the eastbound lane and the curb cut.
The entire Custis was clear but wet this evening.

ParticipantHi, am new to this forum so not sure if thread below is for today? Is it correct that Custis Trail is clear following the March 17 storm? Thanks.

ParticipantHi Trish, welcome to the forum! Yes, this thread is for yesterday’s storm (and I can also personally confirm that the trail is clear, at least between Lee Highway and the Ballston Connector near Glebe Road).

ParticipantWOD / Custis dry and clear from Vienna to Key Bridge, except for the Broad St bridge in Falls Church. Only the westbound lane is clear on the bridge.
