There is some stingy mud under the Wilson Blvd bridge as well as cones to mark the hazardous conditions here. A fellow wiped out there this morning. Of course, the solution is to throw cones around it and call it a day instead of picking up a shovel and spending tops 5 minutes clearing it. Arlington? C’mon man. I’ll soon report this on the Arlington app. Stay safe San Diego.
The cones have been there for three days now, usually the mud gets cleaned up faster than that at this location. This morning someone had moved the cones over to block the clear lane so everyone was riding through the mud. I was too lazy to move them back.

ParticipantThe NE branch construction flood zone was back to normal yesterday. Normal as in flooding gone, trail clear, some hard-packed mud spots where it flooded and rough spots where the construction crews cross the trail. I stopped to watch an osprey catch a fish this morning — the birds are liking the new river pattern. The fish not so much, I suppose.

ParticipantI just wrote the NVRPA about this. Simply been too long for this mud to still be there. If I had a shovel I’d do it myself.

ParticipantNVRPA didn’t respond but this hazard is now clear. You can now blast away through this blind curve.

ParticipantThe C&O Canal Towpath from Georgetown to Whites Ferry was dry and in good shape as of Sunday, April 6. Lots of pedestrians out.
The 4MRT is closed between the W&OD access trails at Glencarlyn Park. It looks like it is for the upgrading of the playground area.
Be aware that over the next three Friday evenings there will be road closings in Crystal City affecting a couple of the 4MRT detour routes to the CC connector tunnel because of the CC 5K Fridays.

Encountered this Friday last week. Luckily, I was able ride w/o any issues from the CC Connector –> Service Rd –> Crystal Dr Sidewalk (slow roll from Service Rd to Potomac Ave) –> Potomac Ave SB to Alexandria. Hopefully that will remain the case the next few weeks. There were lots of cones around, even on the Service Rd back by the railroad tracks, so I’m not sure if I was on part of the official course, but the marshals/volunteers all either ignored me or waved me through with a smile.
The route would work to get down to Glebe and cut over to Rte. 1 to pick up 4MR there in case anyone needs any ideas.

ParticipantThere is a pretty feisty goose near (to what I call it) the Frog pond, heading east just before Col. Pike. He’s pretty angry. Consider yourself warned.

I think that is actually Sparrow Pond. That was probably the same goose that was hissing at me on the way home last night. At least it stayed on the edge of the trail unlike the doofus geese by the fields of golden daffodils on Columbia Island that were just sort of sauntering across the MVT.

To me, it’s the frog pond. Or better yet, Kermit’s Pond.

ParticipantAnyone going through the W&OD and Four Mile Run trail should be careful on the stretch near Columbia Pike as a series of bridges are washed out. Be safe out there.

Thanks for the heads up. I was watching for it this morning but the poor woman in front of me had no idea it was there and had to come to a screeching halt to avoid impact!
