If you want to ride with your friends and family, stay tuned for an e-mail containing important instructions. Linking your friends and family ensures that you are assigned to the same start time on Tour day and makes packet pickup faster and easier!

Group email went out today. If anyone’s interested in riding in a group, PM me and we can get a group setup. However:
YOU HAVE UNTIL FRIDAY, MARCH 1 at 1PM EST TO SIGN UP AS A GROUP. (Emphasis as in their email).

So who’s riding this year? Just got my email saying I’m part of the red group.

Also, what is the best way to get to NYC without a car? I know there are certain Amtrak trains that allow bikes, though I haven’t researched enough to find out if the line to NYC allows them.

We had a thread on this last year. If memory serves, Amtrak was no (NE corridor), Megabus was no, Bolt bus was yes (space available under bus). Fact check me before making any real decisions, though! -Jeff

I don’t think so. I recall them as being more urban.

Really? 3 days and no “NYC is full of asses” jokes?

    Some random observations from NYC.

Went to the packet pickup and the Primal booth staff gave me a 20% off coupon. He said I could share the number with my friends. OK. Friends, have at it!

New York’s CitiBike is getting rolled out. They have some big stations.

Mr. Dirt seems to have some followers of pink here in NYC. This one, alas, has seen better days.

The Five Boro Ride is produced by Bike New York and the NYC DOT. Wouldn’t it be great if DC DOT was a sponsor of Bike DC next year?

Ride was fantastic. Had a great time. The advice everybody offered was great and made my day even better. Thanks

They split the starts up into three waves of about 11000 riders each. That is a bunch of bikes!

There was every kind of cycle imaginable. A couple of CitiBike early adopters showing off their rides.

We owned (for a day at least) half an interstate (this was in Brooklyn). Note to self – temper my future comments about the nature of bike trail repairs. Pothole repairs on interstates are rougher.

Crossing the Verrazano Bridge was really nice.

All in all, a fine day for a ride.

Are those trucks/buses travelling over the bridge with the cyclists too?

No. They were parked. Might have been SAG. There was a wide variety of rider experience/fitness so the organizers may have known where riders run out of gas.

    Support was amazing.

There were a number of interesting bikes on the ride. I felt quite ordinary on my hybrid. Here are a few I saw.

Whoa! Big Wheels for adults. I WANT ONE!

I wore mine out as a kid; it completely disintegrated.
