ParticipantI suspect DC doesn’t give a crap because traffic doesn’t move that fast there anyway. They’re happy to provide traffic suggestions (not enforcement, because there are no consequences to disobeying) at 14th and PA because those cars going up and down 14th there can get up a good head of steam.
And don’t get me started on the lack of enforcement of cars turning through the cycletrack without yielding to bikes.
In short, I hear you and I feel your pain, but I doubt you’re going to get much satisfaction.

ParticipantAll things considered, I think turning across the cycletrack, even when rude drivers just block the cycletrack while they’re waiting for the pedestrians in the crosswalk to clear, is better than having one-way mixing zones, like on the L street track. It’s still pretty annoying though. Sometimes I give the stink eye. Sometimes I just wave and smile and say “good morning!” a little too loudly.

ParticipantI think I need to give up on the 15th street lanes during rush hour. It was a madhouse last night and I think I’m safer dealing with the cars on the road. Also annoying are the cyclists who see the 10 bicycle deep backups waiting in the lane at a light, and decide to go ahead and creep-pass on the right.

ParticipantIf there is a real attempt to enforce against crosswalk blocking anywhere in the region, I would be surprised.

ParticipantStop restricting yourself to the bike lane ghetto. If it’s not working; if it’s blocked by elephant cars, if there’s a swarm of pedestrians, if shoalers are jumping the line, get out. Take a regular northbound lane. There’s one going into the intersection and two on the other side. In a gridlock scenario, speeds and lane sizes work in your favor if you stay in the regular through lanes.
I am a Shepherd of Cars. I will jump a light to get in front of a car trying to block the box and prevent them from doing so. If a cowboy wrangles cows, and I wrangle cars, does that actually make me a Carboy?

No, you are a Shepherd of Cars. A carboy is a big glass jar for making homebrew beer.
