Checking in to the Team 3 thread, mostly just to lodge complaints about Jeff.

Hi Sluggards! My vision of team success for 2023 will be to stay as healthy as possible and clog the board with dog pics. “Dog” not the other “D” word.

I hope Jeff, the worst captain, manages to take care of my wife. Maybe I’ll see you all on an infiltrated team ride

    Dearest slugs (aka team 3)

This is Rumi crashing your team thread to announce this year’s “team fundraising challenge” to reward any teams where all 10 members chip in *any amount* to the Feeding Saddles campaign, our annual charity partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank!

To help your team win a cool little prize:

    1. Donate Any Amount (every dollar provides two meals!): https://give.capitalareafoodbank.org/campaign/feeding-saddles-virtual-fundraiser-2023/c457737 (if you already have donated, skip to step #2, and yes, you can donate anonymously if you prefer)

    2. Hashtag: To count your donation towards your team challenge goal, just edit the title of your latest ride on strava (any ride since Jan 1 really) to include this hashtag:

    #FeedingSaddlesTeam3

    3. Check out https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/FeedingSaddlesTeam3 to see your team’s progress!

    4. When all 10 on your team have chipped in any amount, you WIN! (and so do people who need food!)

Anyone who’s doing #scavhunt interested in trying to get together this Tuesday to take a selfie of members of our team? I live in Reston close to the W&OD and metro, willing to travel to DC or MD. Weather looks decent.

I could get down to Hains point by 4:30pm or so maybe. Hyattsville meetup would be closer to me if you’re willing to do the multimodal-ing. Jeff

I know it sounds glamorous but being a field bike mechanic wasn’t actually all that much fun yesterday. I’m taking today off (from work) for a questionable reason, hopefully can get some miles later. Tomorrow going skiing. Cover for me or meetup at Whitetail! Keep up the good work, you all are doing great!

I’m leading a #publicartfinder ride in Reston on Sunday, 2/5 (11am) and all FS riders are welcome (especially my teammates!!!) whether you’re playing the game or not! This is posted in the FS events thread, and on the forum’s events calendar. Here are the details:

#PublicArtFinder Fun Ride Goes to Reston VA, Sunday, 02/05/2023 (11 AM)
Come and explore while on 2 wheels some of Reston’s 80+ permanent and temporary public artworks and score some #publicartfinder points!

This fun ride is a joint venture between #publicartfinder pointless prize sponsor Boomer2U and Reston-resident karenbikes2. Participation is open to all who can ride a bike and at your own risk so please wear a helmet, use bike lights and obey all road rules/trail etiquette. Here is the 17.8 mile route with an easy option to shorten to about 8 miles:
    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41867937

Ride starts at the Wiehle East-Reston Metro Plaza in front of Starbucks. If you’re arriving by metro, turn left after you go through the fare gates. If you’re arriving via the W&OD, at the Wiehle Ave crossing, turn left onto Wiehle, cross Sunset Hills Rd, take the next right at Reston Station Blvd, then your first left up a cobblestone-ish access road to the Wiehle East-Reston Metro Plaza. Starbucks will be on your right, near the entrance to the metro. For those driving, there’s a free parking lot at the intersection of Wiehle and Sunset Hills. From there follow the directions for riding from the W&OD.

For more information on some of the art we’ll see on the ride: https://publicartreston.org/

If the weather is foul on the 5th, we’ll ride instead on Sunday, 2/12/2023, 11am.

Sorry I can’t make that Karen, sounds fun! Up for any team rides on most Fridays or Saturdays. Some exceptions, I have three more lift tickets I must use. Skiing was fun yesterday but my new boots suck. I did manage 10 miles before leaving for Whitetail. Will get caught up on logging my rides when I get home to connect my Garmin to computer.

    Copying @RumiPumi’s post….
We are 13 donors short of our 50 donor goal

Please pitch in any amount to help feed neighbors in your community!

After you donate, please give The Salted Slugs credit in the team challenge by following these instructions:

    Thanks Slugs!

Thanks for inspiring me to ride all winter — I hope everyone had an injury- and illness-free winter and enjoyed the great outdoors a little more than otherwise due to Freezing Saddles. Sorry for being such a sluggard captain, but I was in management for a long time and learned that when the team is clicking well, the best thing for management to do is nothing! -Jeff
