    Placeholder for Team 2.

    If you have navigated here from an email I sent, please make one post with a short intro to the team about your motivation to participate and any specific goals you may have for this year’s “competition,” e.g., ride daily, total distance, etc. No wrong answers.

    As I said, I don’t expect that this will be a primary form of communication, unless you all would like it to be.

    More to follow: I will edit this post once we are up and running in a day or so.

    I’m Kelley, (a/k/a Kbikeva or Kelley West). I’m on the W&OD Trail Patrol so I get a lot of miles in that way. That said, out where I live, they don’t clear the trail so if the weather leaves white stuff on the ground, I’ve been known to go ride in a parking garage. There will be a couple of days in March when I’m a prisoner of the airlines for a necessary trip, so I hope to not let you all down, but I do know there are 3 days I won’t have the opportunity to ride.

    Also, I use Strava only when I’m participating in Freezing Saddles, so if you follow me, it will be very sad after March 20.

    My goal is 10 miles a day. Every day. Except the above mentioned days.

    Hey Andy! My goal is to do at least 10 miles a day, every day. Also, to meet up and ride with other Freezing Saddlers, whether on our team or not.

    It may be sad for us, Kelly, but if you’re riding, you won’t be sad! 10 per day is a good number, do it!

    Hey Ricky! We will have to catch up when I’m in town next (this fall?), easy bike ride and some hangin out and chillin.

    Thanks Andy for being our team captain! I’m sorry I didn’t make it to the happy hour. My goal is to ride most days and participate in some group rides/events. I’m co-sponsoring the tandem pointless prize, and I’m on the board of the Metro Washington Association of Blind Athletes (MWABA) if anyone is interested in tandem biking or our other activities. I live in Maryland so meeting up in DC or Maryland would be most convenient for me, but I might be able to make it to Virginia.

    Hi All! Thanks for getting us rolling, Andy. Stoked for this squad – some new friends as well as old! Not sure how many FS I have done at this point but I always look forward to the winter riding. I commute via bike most days and will do my best to hit the 10 miles per day threshold.

    Jason here, I live way out in Herndon and mostly mountain bike and trials ride. This is my second FS and I plan on riding 10+ miles everyday, 100 miles per week, primarily near home in the evening on my gravel bike. If you see a 2 hour ride where I only travel 1 mile, that’s likely trials practice at the local park, and a gravel ride will follow. One of these years we should base the points on riding time rather than miles.

    I ride road to do workouts, but I much prefer riding gravel. I could totally get on board with this. I suspect it would make the competition a bit fairer for some of the folks that can’t ride at 30km/h+, because without speed, the distance is harder to amass, but time is time. Perhaps we should suggest a dual tracking leaderboard that ranks folks for time AND distance. I like the idea. A lot, Jason!

    I’ve never ridden a trials bike, but I watch the vids on YouTube from time to time, it intrigues me. I am deeply impressed with the bike handling skills of the riders.

    This idea was, in fact, discussed a few years ago and received support from slow riders and less support from fast riders. Strange, eh?
    I believe it does help even things out, particularly for people who are in the city and dealing with traffic lights, etc. Being out in the bad weather is out in the bad weather. It’s pretty much just as bad going 8 mph as 15 mph.

    Feel free to chime in next October when discussion restarts.

    I said most of this on our Strava group, but here it is again:

    Hi! I’m Alex – I’m in the Dupont/Adam’s morgan area. Looking forward to attempting to keep pace with you all, but I suspect I’ll be bringing up our rear when the dust settles in March. Looking forward to riding with as many of you as possible, in between writing my thesis this semester.

    I don’t mind where our online presence ends up, as long as it ends up centralized, either here or Strava (or somewhere else!)
