I wasn’t hit and I’m sure other cyclists encountered worse yesterday but…

Riding south on Ft. Totten Dr NE last evening to get to the MBT in the sharrows, a NOTJERK driver came upon me and could not safely pass me (over the double yellow line) so they hung back. JERK driver behind them got super annoyed and began beeping to encourage NOTJERK driver. They engaged in a beep-off (must be nice for the hundreds of people who live along there). Finally, JERK driver passed all of us over the double yellow lane (speeding, of course). Had another speeding driver been coming in the other direction, lots of us would have paid the price (not to mention the extra strain on essential people).

I know – this happens all the time but that stretch is my new problem area. Is it under the jurisdiction of MPD or NPS? Tempted to see what happens if I file a complaint. I will be ready with the license plate next time.

I’ve had two incidents where someone who was driving considerately around me was hit by a JERK driver and I’m sensitive to it.

Should be MPD as it is outside of the park. I’ve had quite a few close encounters heading south on that stretch myself, often when slowing to make the left onto Bates (including cases with cars taking that opportunity to pass me on the left). Too many drivers treat it (and most of the roads) as high-speed cut-throughs.

Will be interesting to see if they keep the sharrows when the next phase of the MBT opens up to go between the “Transfer Station” and train tracks before going up the hill through the park itself.
