Have you heard about that block of Crystal Drive with the Chick-fil-a? The one whose bike lanes are blocked more than 60% of waking hours? The County is currently set to allow new redevelopment that would duplicate that experience on 2 more blocks of Crystal Drive as well as duplicating the Pentagon City Hayes Street clusterfuck in front of a new Crystal City Metro 2nd Entrance on 18th Street. Tell them we cannot let new development repeat past mistakes or put people at risk for years while staff works on a long-term solution.

    Update:

Thursday Night Transportation Commission recommended that the County Board
    1) Require the development to build protected bike lanes on 18th Street
    2) Initiate a public process to determine the best long-term cross-section for Crystal Drive
    3) Update the civil engineering for this project and any other approved projects along Crystal Drive with that cross-section if they haven’t yet begun construction.
    4) Develop an “interim” protected bike lane cross-section for Crystal Drive that could be put in place by this development if the public process is NOT done in time.

The focus now is on getting Planning Commission to agree with TC at their Monday meeting and then to get the County Board to listen to their commissions and their citizens.

Arlington Police were doing some level of enforcement along the Crystal Drive bike lanes. I saw this officer servicing one motorist when I went in to dinner and came out to see him servicing another.

    Sweet!
