ParticipantDang. Sadly, I walk for most of these (except for REI). It’s a lot easier walking than getting ready for a bike ride. The only time I would do something like this is when I’m out on the bike and need to stop by the bike shop on the way home for a repair.
If we could count walking, I’d have a good chance. I will usually walk to at least one grocery store a day, in addition to the post office, library, Dr., dentist, haircut, farmers marker, fast food, liquor store, and other shopping. But no gym. The gym is evil!
The only time the car is used is when I’m going somewhere where the weather is nicer! And even then, I take my bike and walk to most stuff.December 12, 2019 at 2:55 am #1101731cvcalhoun
ParticipantSo, can I count commuting if there is a gym at my office, and I go to it before I go upstairs to my office? Yeah, I know, always looking for a loophole!

ParticipantWait, what? What about getting ready to walk is easier than getting ready to bike? You put on shoes to walk…you put on shoes to ride. You put on pants (I hope) to walk, you put on pants (I hope) to ride…shirt…optional if you are a dude…wait, some of the new jog bras are pretty spiffy, but it is colder than a witches tit out when you ride in a jog bra in 32F weather. I think it is the wind? Perhaps you don’t put on a backpack to walk to the grocery store…but I always buy WAAAY too much ice cream to carry in bags hanging from my hands…backpack and panniers I say! and flowers …for yourself, for your gal…they look great sticking outta a pannier…nah…going to have to go with BICYCLING ALL THE WAY, EVERY WHERE, YES PLEASE!! Bahahahahaha (insert crazed insane emoticon of a person on a bike) Pic is from Feb 6 2019

ParticipantI’m plugging that loophole with my big fat commutes don’t count finger. That is a commute for a lucky person who has a gym right there at the office, that commuted to…and commuted from..! Nice! (I count 4 uses of the word commute. I can be such an ass) How about getting your nails done? How about a color that matches your bike??[ATTACH=CONFIG]20545[/ATTACH]

Hmm I guess ima hafta get me a flesh colored bike to get you to have trouble resisting me. [emoji848][emoji2368]
I’ve tried nail polish, but ugh, I never can hold still for long enough for it to dry & it’s always a mess. Think about a 5 year old painting her nails…. (Except my daughter was better at it than me by the time she was 5. Because she wisely inherited from her dad instead of me in the careful department.)
I’m not good at leaving the dried painted nails alone either… [emoji2368] Maybe if I bike harder…. [emoji2957][emoji2186][emoji106]

ParticipantHmm, here’s my problem with this one: If I do one bicycle ride, and I run four errands on it (not atypical), would I have to divide it into four rides in order to get credit for four times of adulting? Or could I tag/name the same Strava ride with four different tags, eg (from a recent ride) #FS2020Adulting Gym, #FS2020Adulting Breakfast Club, #FS2020Adulting Harris Teeter, #FS2020Adulting Post Office? (Each place is more than one mile from the previous place and more than one mile from my house.)

Assuming this will work like all of the other hashtag-generated leaderboards: you would need to separate each errand into a separate ride. Official ruling from the judges?

Participanthahahaha, Nadine! sounds like you gotta bad case of ants in your pants! I like the gel ones where they dry quick under that light that prolly causes skin cancer…speaking of nails, I am waaaay over due. :p

ParticipantAs the judge (I think?) I think you should be awarded 1 point for each of those adulting items, however, these must be counted by the techies and I have defer to the techies on a couple of questions here: 1. Does each errand need to be a separate strava ride to get the counting engine to count them? 2. Will the #FS2020Adulting be counted if it is embedded in the strava title and not at the end? I need the counting engine to do the hard work of telling me who is winning…! and I am sure folks would like to see where they stand in the adulting points accumulation….

Unless something changed, each errand would have to be a separate ride to be counted. The hashtag can be anywhere in the ride title, but I think the logic is essentially “does this ride have this hashtag” rather than “how many times does this hashtag show up?”
The leaderboard that does the counting would be at https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/FS2020Adulting

I don’t think that’s correct. Doesn’t it need to be in the ride/activity title, not the description? But I agree with the rest of your claim.

Correct – title, not description. (I got sloppy with my Strava nomenclature.) Fixed my earlier post – thanks for catching that.
