Crystal Drive bike lane

    Arlington repaved Crystal Drive between 26th and 27th Streets. The strip used to be one-way (northbound) with a northbound bike lane. The change is bittersweet. Now it is two-lane road with a southbound bike lane (sweet) but no more northbound bike lane (bitter). And where will the northbound cars double park now?

    The best solution is for cyclists to be allowed to take the bus lanes. Otherwise there are going to be many impatient drivers lined up behind the northbound cyclists. I’ll probably take the lane and let the drivers stew.

    How did we lose the northbound bike lane in this deal? I’ve taken the sidewalk there on occasion, but now the bus lane will be the most appealing option.

    Wasn’t that a door zone bike lane, that sort of disappeared at 26th? I mean I confess to usually taking it, but definitely lost VC points for doing so. The new SB bike lane is not door zone?

    Again this morning with the bike lane aka loading zone, and they have really messed up the 27th/Crystal Dr/Potomac Ave intersection. Seemed like most of the drivers there this morning need a remedial drivers ed refresher. I wish I had brought my GoPro just to record that zoo for one light cycle.
